Hi all,
I was just wondering if anyone has applied to the Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in NYC for the coming year? I am looking to get into their part-time evening program that would begin in Spring 2011. I'm taking the NLN this Wed and really nervous about it, really just the verbal part....
With respect to the Ethics course, I suggest you take it online during the summer. Remember, once you start classes at PBISN, you are required to take all courses at the school - unless you have been approve to take a challenge or CLEP exam for that particular subject. I believe the school's Catalog tells you what courses are prereqs for certain nursing courses.
Also, you may think that it's only one nursing course but do not be fooled. Nursing courses are worth around 6 -7 credits during the first year. There is the theory (lecture) component; a lab component, and the clinical component. Each component has its own requirements. For lecture, you have about 4-5 exams and ALL finals are comprehensive. The lab consist of weekly quizzes and competency exams. Clinicals usually start the 2nd week of school and be prepared to submit ALOT of paperwork. There are nursing care plans and PERSON sheets due each week. I know that there are some school that required you to do one to two care plans for the semester, but at PBISN, you are required to submit one weekly. It will be dependent on your clinical instructors but most requires you to do a nursing care plan that they approved.
Overall, get as many prereqs completed and transferred into PBISN as you can because you will need to dedicate time to the nursing courses. Besides, if you can get it done cheaper somewhere else, I would suggest that. Remember, PBISN is $380 per credit..
Thanks so much for the info. I think you are absolutely right. The Dean told me to do the same thing yesterday. She told me I should get micro and ethics done so I could just focus on the nursing courses. I am already registered for micro and I'm still trying to register for ethics but I'm having trouble with the school. Every time I try to register the keep telling me there are no classes but then they say the classes are still open. I don't get it. :/
Hi Everyone,
I remember the frustration last year my Daughter applied and we didnt find out till almost june! She scored a 152 and 99% overall on her nln. She was interviewed the end of april. She was put in the 3 year because she was straight out of HS. I been reading the whole thread and I will let you know that i have been a nurse for 28 years, and i thought maybe i could lend some insight why young nurses are having some problems finding jobs....yes you will eventually have to go back for your BSN the sooner the better, but i think economics are what is playing a role in whether new grads are being hired. Hospitals want to avoid paying benefits it is an incredible amount of money per nurse. So they using agency and travelers and that is the bottom line. Phillips Beth Israel is an excellent school of nursing. It prepares their graduates to be able to comfortably enter the workforce.Their teachers are caring and my daughter is having a wonderful experience there.I went to a school very similar and i think here is something to say about a small specialized school and the attention you receive. Last year they extended the FA deadline and for the person who was asking, the scholarship and financial aid info comes with your acceptance package. Be Patient I know its so hard to wait but in their defense there are an enormous amount of people applying and just a few of them working through all your info. Good luck to all I hope this helped!
ugh, is it just me or are online registrations super annoying?
i'm registered for ethics this fall at finger lakes; i figure it's better to know i can take it if i decide to. and, as jsi mentioned, it's a good idea to get these things out of the way to better focus on nursing studies.
another CLEP question: what are the actual tests like? I've scoured the excelsior website just looking for a simple description of the test (ie, style, number of questions, etc) but they're being vague (I think they really want me to buy that $65 review, lol)! is it all multiple choice? how many questions?
Thanks for any insight!
i agree with everyone - you should try to take as many classes as you can outside of phillips beth israel. for one thing it is cheaper at a community college than there (as someone else stated earlier). #2 as someone said earlier you'll be able to focus more on the nursing courses! so anxious for wed to come to hopefully hear about the status...
I have finally registered for the Ethics class with Finger Lakes CC. I am having a little trouble with the book though so if someone could help me out I would appreciate it. When I put in the ISBN # I get different books depending on what website I enter it. Amazon gives me one book and textbooks.com another. The class states I need the 5th ed with a dictionary of philosophical terms so if someone could at least tell me what the cover looks like or what website to go to I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!
Anashenwrath,I emailed MG last night about some info on the ethics class. She told me that she thinks they are no longer doing 2 interviews for people going into ATOP and EVE but she wasn't exactly sure. Just thought I would share the info.
Wow! So basically we're done! Are you as anxious as I am? Lol, I'm bouncing off the walls already! Are you signed up for ethics in the fall or summer?
Thanks for the info Jay, have a great week!

I have to take ethics this summer. I tried to register this morning but didn't have enough time (I had class). I'll try again in a little bit.
