Phillips Beth Israel Applicants

Published

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone has applied to the Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in NYC for the coming year? I am looking to get into their part-time evening program that would begin in Spring 2011. I'm taking the NLN this Wed and really nervous about it, really just the verbal part....

I have a BA, as well. I have been very impressed with the number of students with bachelor's and master's degrees at BI. Well, keeping my fingers crossed for acceptance. Thanks for your input, Kem!

thanks for the well wishes jayzelena!

I remember the open house conversation about the interview including the words "pretty much" and "basically accepted" as well. But I think (and hope) that the only people who don't make it even after an interview are the ones who poorly represent themselves or are clearly not the people they portrayed themselves to be in their application and essay.

What did you guys wear to your interview? I figured one of my business suits would be a little overkill, so I am going with a slightly more casual matching skirt and jacket. Hopefully the weather will be a little nicer than today!

And it's so great to see all these BAs and MAs on the scene! I got my BS in Biology and Chemistry a few years ago (have to take CLEP for a few of them bcs they're so old! :uhoh3:)

anashenwrath, I wore a black dress appropriate for the office, flats, pearls, minimal makeup, and made sure my hair and nails were nicely done (no polish, just shaped and buffed).

I wore black dress/office pants, a simple blouse, a 3/4 "non-granny" :) cardigan and low heels I was sure I wouldn't trip/slide in. Kept the jewelry to a minimum, hair simple (not in my face), manicured/plain nails and went light on the make up. I also avoided perfume that day because I know some folks are really sensitive to perfumes but I think something light would be ok. I had a terrible interview once where the receptionist turned on the AC when I went to greet the manager so my hair blew into my lip gloss and then I tripped loosing a heel because I now looked like cousin It! Never again ... LOL

ETA - You're going to do great anashenwrath!!!

Hey kem I was just wonderin, what's the first letter of ur last name?

@kem: thanks for the vote of confidence! I have totally been there with the hair in face and then glued to my lip gloss! definitely going for a bun tomorrow!

Hi All,

I had my interview this morning, and I was told the same thing--to check back in a month. Yikes! She told me that I would be a great asset to their program, and the whole time she was speaking as if I was in--telling me I should look into this program and that. I had to sign an agreement (which I know others on this site mentioned they did the same). She also said the committee wasn't meeting for another month to review my group's applications and that I had missed the most recent review last week. Has anyone else been told to wait another month for a decision, but then been told much sooner? The waiting game is no fun, but I guess I need to learn to be more patient :anbd:

Thanks, Kem. My composite was 130 and DI 95%, AD 90 and ALL 91%. The other thing that really scares me is that people who have been accepted seem to either have a Bachleors or Masters in something. Where does that leave those who don't yet have degrees?

Is it true they are going in Alphabetical order? That doesn't seem too fair for the people at the bottom of the alphabet?? I called MG today and she said that they are still going over the applications. If they are interviewing people everyday they must be meeting on a more frequent basis.

Does anyone know how many spaces they have left/ how many have already been accepted? This has been a very grueling couple of months and now that we are down to the last couple of days seems torturous! I know we've been told to be patient but it's getting to be very difficult. :o

Hey guys! Hope all are doing well. Congrats to Kem on your acceptance into the program! Starlette, don't fret, you're in. As for me, I got a call this morning for an interview. I can't believe it. After I received that letter last week I thought it was over but apparently not. Good luck to all who are still waiting. I know how stressful it is but God always puts us where we belong. I'll keep you guys posted. Btw, what should I wear??

Marcos - I was told the same thing - June 15th is when I was told to call to find out whether or not I'm in. I am trying to patient, but I am ready to start getting prepared for the fall semester. I have been checking out clogs/shoes online our for clinical because I am ready to get into that uniform! I'm such a dork. Also, I would like to get the books so I can start familiarizing myself with the material we'll be covering. I suppose I should just get through my final exams this semester :clown:

I'm hoping that for some reason they contact us before mid-June when they have their meeting, but that's wishful thinking.

Jayzelena, I'm confused!!

Ok, OSuro, this is what happened. I called MG yesterday to find out where my application was lacking to I could make it stronger for next year. She got my file and asked me if I was still in school. Then she asked if I could send my spring 2010 grades. I can't until after May 26th cause that's my last final. Anyway, I told her I could send her my grades from the tests I have taken so far. I faxed everything over and then I got a call today for an interview.

I think that letter was a standardized letter and maybe you should give them a call as well. It is possible with all the applications they have to sort through ours fell through the cracks.

They also changed my interview from next Friday to tomorrow! I'm super nervous!
