Phillips Beth Israel Applicants

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone has applied to the Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in NYC for the coming year? I am looking to get into their part-time evening program that would begin in Spring 2011. I'm taking the NLN this Wed and really nervous about it, really just the verbal part....

You will do great. Dean Mc.. is great and she does know her students. I was interviewed by her. Also, with respect to a 2nd interview, is this a new thing because there were only one interview. Also, many people that are called for an interview usually get accepted. She also likes to ask you why you chose nursing and not MD, PA...

thanks js! my first interviewer said that anyone who is applying for the ATOP or evening program will need to have a 2nd interview because professors want to get a better idea of the candidates applying for the programs and make sure that they fit? so i'm not toooooo worried about the 2nd interview-i was told not to worry haha. thanks for the tips! =) are you graduating this yr?

I am finishing up my 1st year this summer. It's interesting that they want to 2 interviews, but maybe they have alot more candidates than before or they are trying something new. Literally, I had all required items into the office by the May 1st deadline, was interviewed within a week, and got my acceptance letter around May 12th. But, I have heard people getting accepted as late as June. The process is that - a process - they do a thorough interview process and do not just rely on grades only. Some positive signs that I got during/after the interview was that I was asked to sign a paper stating that I am able to perform certain nursing requirements/duties and then they gave me a tour of the school and classroom. But, it sounds like you will be accepted. Good luck!

oh yea! i did have to sign that paper. i didn't get a tour, but i think it was during spring break lol. I think the admissions committee is meeting around 5/5 or 5/10 i guess...i just can't wait for the letter! lol

If you did well on your NLN exam, grades are good and transcripts showed that you consistently did better each semester, and interview was good and engaging then I see no reason why you wouldnt get accepted. .The process can be long because they want to weed people out that they think can't emotional or academically handle it - it is a different type of studying. Also, there are so many applicants that there is about a 10% chance of acceptance. So, you are more half way through and just watch for that acceptance letter!

Well ladies, I gave one last call today and MG said that they will make decisions by May 1. I don't think that's a good sign considering they've been reviewing my application for the past week and a half :-(

She said by May 1st, if you're being considered they'll call you in for an interview , and if not, you'll get a letter.

It doesn't make sense that I spoke to her two weeks ago and she said I'll be hearing from her the week after. I can only assume that my application wasn't strong enough. It was like she was telling me I wasn't accepted without telling me.

Oh, well whatever will be, will be. I guess I have to wait until May to get their definitive response. Best of luck to all you guys!

Don't worry about what she said. They've been reviewing my application since the beginnning of March, lol. I think they're process is meant to be long and drawn out because they want to weed out the people who can't handle the stress or are just going into the field solely for monetary gain. Just relax and try not to think about it. You know you always find/get things when you're not looking for it or thinking about it. ;)

Thank you!! I LOVE this support group that's been built buy you all!! It's not that 'misery loves company', but we can all relate to this long, nerve-wrecking process. It's nice to have people that understand. I'll talk to my mom or husband about it, and they sympathize but they don't understand like you do...

Now I'm worried and everything is starting to make sense (LOL I feel like a detective)

I believe our applications were already reviewed.

Scarlettes was obviously reviewed and she got a call and her interview and I am sure others did as well. (Congrats again Scarlette)

We haven't received a call all we keep hearing is how they will be sending out letters after May 1st.

OSuro says MG said that IF you are being considered they will call you for an interview....She also said that REJECTION letters were being sent out After May 1st.

I do not think they send out acceptance letters because even from other threads whoever was accepted got a phone call for an interview and I bet whoever gets dosnt get a phone call and only gets a letter will be receiving a rejection letter =(

I could DEFINATELY be wrong but it just seems fishy to me because I was told over a month ago that my application was being reviewed then all of a sudden every time I have called I was told my application was reviewed and I'll receive a letter in May.

If when I called and MG ...if I WAS being considered why wouldn't MG just ask me when I could come in for an appoitment while she already had me on the phone? I bet because I will not be asked for an interview therefore I will not be getting in, therefore the whole "Wait until May 1st for your letter" is waiting for the rejection letter.

Does this make sense to anyone?

I'm trying to stay positive but I don't think this looks good.

I could be wrong and am NOT trying to make anyone feel like they're not accepted if they haven't gotten a call (what do I know I'm just a student like the rest of you all waiting and hoping to get in) but in my opinion it dosn't look good unless we get a phone call sometime within the next week or so

That is EXACTLY how I feel. I just didn't have the energy to type. I went in there and spoke to MG in person 2 weeks ago and said my app was in front of the Chairman, and she has a stack of folders YAY high. MG told me "I'll be in contact with you next week". I got a 92% and 138comp. on the NLN, and I think MG thought I had a good chance, maybe that's why she thought she'd be contacting me for an interview.

That was last week, and when I called her, she asked that I fax my NLN scores and I called to confirm her receipt of it. MG also mentioned that she was worried about one of my transcripts (i got all WUs that turned into Fs for a whole year. Went through a lot of stuff that I mentioned in my essay and that was 4 years ago. This is my first year back and I have about a 3.56 GPA and I told her that. She said it's being reviewed and when I asked her what's next she said "let's wait and see". When I called today, she was nice, but very generic telling me about the whole May 1 deal. MG said responses will be mailed out 5/1 and I asked her "wouldn't they have to interview your first"? It was like she was on Auto Pilot.

So, Kuhlara ( sry if I spelled it wrong) I agree with you. What were everyone else's experience?

I worked in retail years ago, and we would have to open store credit cards. Those who were approved got it on the spot, and those who weren't had to receive a letter in the mail. We were informed to tell them, "the bank needs more information, you'll be receiving a letter on what to do next." Same situation here.

Oh Kuklara, don't worry so much. Yes, everything you said is totally possible BUT, if MG knew that you weren't going to be accepted why not just tell you so you would stop calling? I think what they are doing is waiting until May 1st because ALL documents MUST be in by then. There are probably files that aren't complete yet and their website does say that you have until May 1st to get all necessary paperwork in so maybe they're waiting until then to make it fair for everyone. I was under the impression that the earlier you send in your application the better chance you have of getting in. That doesn't seem to be the case. All I know is that I've never been this anxious in my life. This process is complete torture for me!

Try to take it easy Kuklara. I know how stressed out you are. I'm going to try to get in touch with MG tomorrow to see what she tells me. If I hear something different I will let you know.
