Hi all,
I was just wondering if anyone has applied to the Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in NYC for the coming year? I am looking to get into their part-time evening program that would begin in Spring 2011. I'm taking the NLN this Wed and really nervous about it, really just the verbal part....
jsinyc,
I've never take micro before but MG told me not to worry about it so I'm not. I do have a question though. What times do you have to go to school in the summer? I was told it was 5-8pm Mon-Fri. Hope that the info I got was correct or I'll have to look for a babysitter for my kids if I get accepted.
All new people welcome to the thread!!! Great to see more people!
Aleathea - it was a pretty informal interview. what does it mean to be a nurse, what are my plans in the future re: nursing, and she went over the programs and everything. I had 2 interviews on my folder because I am looking into the part time programs. So if you are applying to the part time programs (ATOP or evening) you will be required to have 2 interviews.
did anyone else get calls?
Jayzelena -
It depends on your program. As for ATOP, our schedule for the summer is 6 weeks of NUR 103 - Psych. Lectures are on Thursdays from 3:00p -8:00p, NO classes on Fridays, and then Clinicals on Saturday from 8:00am - 3:30pm. That schedule is ONLY for the nursing courses. As for other courses, I can only conclude that they will work it into your schedule somehow...possibly a class/lecture on friday and an extra day during the week. The nursing summer schedule is out but the other course schedules are not yet announced.
No calls and I figured I'll give MG a break, I last spoke to her this past Thursday and she confirmed that my application is complete. I've come to the conclusion that I'm not going to make myself sick worrying anymore. I just have to keep the faith and know that if BI is meant to be, I'll get in and if I don't it will be because there's something better.
I totally hear that Starlette. I have all pre-reqs done with the exceptions of ethics and micro so if I get accepted I don't know where they'll put me. Really doesn't matter cause I don't work so I can do any schedule they offer me. Have you heard back from them since your second interview? I keep hoping I'll hear something but nothing yet.
Jayzelena,
Many of my classmates in ATOP do not have micro and are taking it this summer along with Nur 103 - psych. You dont have to have micro completed until next summer if you are accepted into the Fall. Basically, you have to have it completed before your 2nd level. People are accepted into ATOP without having done Micro classes. As for Ethics, they will recommend you take it online before the start of the Fall semester - which I highly recommend. When you get accepted, I recommend the online Ethics course at Fingerlakes Community College. My friend took it there and said it was easy, but I took it at Monroe Community College and it was intense! Also, once you are accepted into any of the programs (TRAD 1, 2, ATOP, Evenings), they are great about accomodating your schedule and you can switch to another programs that will fits your schedule. I hope this helps!

Jayzelena,
Have you taken Micro before? If so, you are allowed to CLEP the exam through Excelsior College while you are at PBISON. If you are in ATOP, you can take Micro during the during summer session while doing NUR 103 - Psych. I am in the ATOP program now and since I have taken Micro years ago, I am eligible to take the Micro CLEP exam. ALot of my classmates are taking Micro this summer, so I wouldnt worry about it.
