PHCC spring 2012 lpn applicants

Published

Hi everyone! Just wondering if there are any other Phcc lpn applicants going crazy out there? The waiting is killing me, and I'm afraid my husband might murder me if I don't stop Freaking out lol. Between stalking the mail carrier and talking about it all the time, he is over it. Can't blame him either. So just looking to see if any others are doing the same.

How freakin awesome!! Woo hoo! Congrats. I knew it was gonna happen!! Congrats again. See you at orientation!

That's great Cynthia. I'm so happy for you.

I got my CPR done today. It was a really good class here in Spring Hill.

Now just for those darn immunizations and I'll be done.

Good one thing taken off the list for you.

Im going to turn my paperwork Monday and pick up the information. I feel so relieved. Going to enjoy the weekend.

Thank you guys for being such great cheerleaders.

CK73- where did you do you cpr at and how much was it? That is all I have left to do. Thank god all my shots and physical is done, lol. Just waiting on my titers to come back. Yay, so excited. I can't wait for orientation. Or this term to be over lol. Oh and I don't know if you guys have time but my science nutrition teacher gave me some advise. She said to get the metric conversions down pat now if your not very strong at it. Also to use the reserve copies of the nursing books from the library and become familiar with terminology before we start classes. She said it was really beneficial and takes a lot of pressure of you that first term. Just thought I would pass that along. Anything that helps. Hope ya'll have a wonderful weekend!!! :p

RedSoxGirl - It's CPR ResQ. They're the ones who drive around with the outline of a body on their PT Cruiser in Spring Hill. The owner/instructor used to be a firewoman. It was a super relaxed class. Here is the link:

The one and only class I she has for Health Care people is on the 15th. But I did get my card right away. It's $40 without the book. In todays class she was giving away old books, but I forgot to grab one on the way out.

That is so weird. I was thinking about those metric conversions in class today. As the video would give both. And I thought I probably should really look into learning those before the term starts.

I also emailed Chris99mu on the boards and asked her for any advice as she started RN recently. But she is on the boards on and off and always seems so nice. It's long but here is her response in a nutshell:

"be flexible. Holy cow are things crazy and discombobulated! PHCC does not always have all their ducks in a row or know they even HAVE ducks sometimes! I got my clinical pants from Walmart bc the ones they have at school are horribly ugly, IMO. Just verify with your professor, but it should be fine. Most of the pt rooms have clocks in them so I don't worry when I forget my plastic watch, which is often bc I hate wearing the thing!

I have a Bachelors degree and am now getting this degree and I have yet to read chapters. I might look up a passage for clarification, or study some tables but I am definitely not a reader. Not something I would recommend, but just being honest when answering your question about reading chapters! My last semester professor was appalled when I came in this semester to speak to the first semester students and said I never cracked the book! Ha! But it's true - just not my style!

I am doing RN but my gf just finished LPN and is now in the bridge. What I learned from her is that LPN students go HARD! You guys go 5 days a week, for 10-11 months! That is cuhrazy! So just be prepared! We go 3-4 days a week so we are slackers compared to you guys! Hats off!!

Oh, the big thing I study from is NCLEX books! Borrow, rent, lend, buy - whatever. Get yourself used to how the questions are worded and what they ask for. Nursing questions are different, for sure. I go hard on my NCLEX books and note cards and so far, knock on wood, have had the highest grade out of my 7 friends, both semester and last. But we are not competitive or anything. ;-)

Sorry for the long post.

Wow!! Congrats Cynthia! I am SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!

Thank you. I am going to go turn in the acceptance letter tomorrow. What time do they open? Do they give me that big packet at that time? At least with you girls I know a lot of what I need to get done.

Hope you are all having a great weekend!

Exciting!!!!!! :nurse:

I believe they open at 8. And no matter what they tell you in admissions, they do not mail it to you. After you turn it in and get it back you have to go to the M building. Take the elevator to the 2nd floor, and once you step off the elevator the door is right there on your right. That is where you sign for the packet and get all the information. The admissions desk told me they mailed it. Lucky for me I called the the number in the acceptance letter and she told me they do not mail it. Have fun!! Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Ya they must have a lack of communication between the people up front and the nursing folks in the M building!

They told me it would be mailed too, but once I went to the M building, they gave me the packet and said they don't mail them..glad I double checked!

Hope you are all having a nice weekend!

I have my physical tomorrow and CPR class Tuesday...I am so happy to be checking things off the list!!

Have you started buying supplies and such yet?

I have stuff picked out, but think I will wait until after orientation to actually buy stuff.

This is soooo exciting, I cannot wait for us all to kick total butt in this program!!

And as a stay at home mom, I must say I am very excited that I will have more adult interaction haha!

You ladies have been so wonderful through this whole application/waiting process, it is great to know i will have such nice classmates!

I also have stuff picked out. I can't wait to get stuff, but like you I am waiting till after orientation. My friends bought me a stethoscope as a present for getting in. Not gonna lie I have busted it out a few times getting comfortable with it Lmao. Something else to drive my hubby crazy. Have fun at your cpr class. That's all I have left to get done. Yay! And I agree, we are gonna rock as classmates.

CPR is all you have left! Awesome!

I have background, drug, and flu shot left..getting there though

Lucky! I wish I had my stethescope already, but I think my mom wants to buy it for me for Christmas, so I will have to be patient :p

I would probably wear mine around my neck while I do housework if I had it now and listen to my daughter's heart and lungs all day lol It is probably a good thing I don't have it yet!

I am driving my hubby nuts with everything too. It is all I talk about lately..poor guy!

Oh poo. Lol. I forgot about the drug test. Oh well. Thought the cpr was all I had left. Guess I would have caught that when I went down the final list. Do we have to pay for that at the bookstore? I know I read we pay the 24 bucks and get the form from the school, but I don't recall if it said where we pay for it.
