PHCC Fall 2011 RN/LPN ROLL CALL!!!!!!

Published

Hello everyone!! I would like to start a thread for the 2011 Fall semester RN & LPN applicants! I applied to both and with the deadline to turn in the application tomorrow, I am already super anxious. I figured this would be a great way to check in with each other and hopefully meet our fellow classmates!!!!!!!!!!

:yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah:

For anyone needing shots, titers, or TB skin tests that isn't using insurance through your Doc, go to your nearest Health Department! They are most affordable! Believe they only take cash though. I had everything done for under $100. Also, no one is in any system until you have accepted your seat, admissions sends it over to Nursing as to who's accepted and declined, and orientation is done. Not getting your items needed turned in can also pose a problem.

Rickie40.....O.K. so, I got a phone call this A.M. while at work from the West campus. It was the lady whom was not to be due back from vacation until next Tuesday. Anyways, she said that she had no idea where the "crack" was in the system and that she has it all taken care of. She faxed me the confirmation for acceptance to the program and I faxed it right back to her. (like 3 times) lol Anyways, she notified me that I got accepted for day/Brooksville as well. With my schedule, kids and all; night classes work out sooo much better. I have to get my immunizations tomorrow and my physical is on Tuesday. I work at Florida Hospital so they will do some of my immunizations for free. I am definately going to the health department for the remainder of them. A fellow student/employee also told me that some health departments have to order the injections and do not keep them in stock. She had to go to ZHills for some immunizations and Dade City for the others. I am trying to learn more about this so I can get/share phone numbers, etc.

BartonBunch...congrats on getting into the program. While you're seeing the employee health nurse at FHZ, you may want to check with HR to see if they will do tuition reimbursement since you're an employee working to further yourself in health care. I don't know if they offer sponsorship for LPN students, but it's worth a shot too. Great place to work as well. They are one of the hospitals that, if you can get a sponsorship, will reimburse on a semesterly basis like I said earlier in this post, thus allowing you to wait before deciding if you want the commitment. East Campus RN Freshmen will be there starting in early September too. Also glad you got the "crack" stuff figured out. I'm sure the people in admissions are getting numerous phone calls from students accepted, and denied, for both programs. And for anyone else looking for sponsorship, don't frame or do anything with your admission letters as those are required 99% of the time during the paperwork process!

well, i can share my experience. I went to the health dept to get all my immunizations. For the varicella, MMR, tetorifice, and PPD cost me $191. CRAZY.I turned in my orientation response form and got the drug screen form to take to quest. Also, i turned in my response forms to the admin building the other day. I called and was told that student development automatically changes you in the computer as seeking an ASN (for RNs). I can't apply for financial aid until i "select a program of study" according to the paper i got from the financial aid office. Also, im taking the BLS class thru PHCC but the last class ends on July 28th. If i don't have my card in the mail by then will i be in big trouble????

Jessika..which health department did you go to? I haven't gotten my physical done yet, but wanted to get an idea of the prices....$200 is a lot of money! I still haven't had my program switched in wise yet and that is messing with my financial aid as well, hopefully everything will work itself out in time!

Regarding the BLS class, I also took mine at PHCC a couple months ago and the instructor asked us if we needed any documentation showing that we had completed the class...I'm sure they will give you something to take with you to orientation, I wouldn't worry about it:)

For those of you who work in a hospital now....what is your position and where do you work?

Regarding the BLS class, make sure it's American Heart Association's "BLS for Healthcare Providers" Here is the link to their website's Matrix that allows you to simply put in a zip code and it'll show you authorized class providers for you to sign-up for.

Thats where I got the class from the Amercian Heart Associations website lol..lol this guy was a former Fire Commisioner for Spring Hill great class everyone seriously great:yeah:

God Bless you guys and gals for sharing your ideas of how we can all save money. The economy is bad but this stuff is priority. I got two immunizations today and my PPD. I was able to have them done for free through the hospital. God Bless!! I also have a yearly physical that I am past due for which will only cost me a $20 co-pay. Everyday is one day closer guys!! Exciting!!

I went to the hernando county health dept on forest oaks. i got a MMR- $64 varicella- $94 tetorifice- $25 and PPD- $13 for a grand total of 191 dollars. i still hafta go back and get the second varicella shot that is another $94 and get the hep b series. but in due time.... i already paid for the drug screen and i background check. I printed off my background check from the website, so that is checked off the list.

Tinkkey-- they also did not change my declared major in wise yet either. I am in the same boat as you with financial aid. I hafta get student loans but i can't until im put in the ASN program. grrrrrrr :banghead: i'm hoping by the time i go after my microbiology class on weds. i can go see financial aid and get things started.

I too work at FHZ, as a unit secretary and have been here a year and a half. I'm trying to do nurse tech but apparently they are changing some things with regard to the NT position, so I am waiting for that to get hammered out. By far, the BEST decision I ever made was getting this job. I have learned so much, such as drug names, procedure types, lingo, talking to doctors, and even just interacting and talking with patients. I highly recommend it.

I am on the scholarship program here. I will do the 2 years. Mainly bc I need the money to help pay daycare costs. And I don't mind committing 2 years to here. I really like it, plus I'm hoping to move to the new location once it opens.

FHZ does not reimburse for LPN, but I believe they will for the bridge portion. Daycare is raping me so I needed all the money I could get, as soon as I could get it!

Again, Congrats to all! PM me if you have any questions. :-)

What's up boys and girls? How is everything going for everyone? I went to the campus yesterday evening and they were having a nursing ceremony/pinning. White uniforms everywhere I looked. So exciting!! I had to sit and think about what it will be like when we all reach that point. WOW! My daughter was with me and she was even commenting on what a mess I will be at that point. lol Hope all is well.

Blessings!
