PHCC Fall 2010 (LPN/BRIDGE/RN)

Published

Hi all :)

I decided to start a new thread since the last one has something like 275 comments. It's a tad overwhelming!

Any questions, concerns, comments, etc regarding Pasco-Hernando Community College's programs? This is your thread:nurse:

We have decided on a meeting time and place. Here are the details:

When: Saturday evening, July 17, 7pm til whenever.

Where: Brass Tap in Wiregrass

Why: Faces to usernames :) lol--Seriously, won't it be great to meet the people who have been stressing out with us for the past several months?

If you have questions about the plan, feel free to pm me :) Also, if anyone has any brilliant ideas on how to recognize one another, feel free to share!

Jenn

RN-to-be...

Hey guys,

I heard you guys saying that the sponsorships are full? I have the orientation meeting on the 3rd after PHCC's orientation... I'm just wondering why they would set an appointment up for me if they were full? I'm starting to get concerned since I need a sponsorship or scholarship or else things will go badly... Like, me not going to school badly... :(

If you have an appointment you must be fine. I feel like I got the runaround because I did not go to the info session, and got nowhere fast :) Just means it did not for some reason work for me. Maybe I am impatient...lol...okay, yes, I am impatient!

Tell me, who did you make your appointment with? Actually, can you inbox me so we don't hijack this thread, unless it is info you think would be of value to the others? Maybe I do still have a chance. ??

Thank you, my friend :)

If you have an appointment I don't think you have anything to worry about. They told me at Career Central they were giving top priority to the PHCC nursing students to get their classes paid for before August 10th. So I think if you bring in all your paperwork needed at your appointment you will be fine regarding getting classes paid for. By full I think was about the Bayonet Point sponsorship not WIA. So it's very possible for you to get WIA and a sponsorship maybe at another hospital or with Bayonet Point as well. Goodluck!!!

True...Bayonet Point and WIA are separate deals. I went through the WIA program, meaning all my paperwork is submitted/approved, etc (started it awhile back due to my unemployment status and was just waiting on PHCC's (or someones!) acceptance letter). So regardless if I get the Bayonet Point thing, I'm covered for school by $3,500/yr from WIA. So, it certainly does help!!

Ah, thanks Yaz! She is on my FB...just didn't put the face w/ the name yet - I'm bad that way. Added Becky too. Thanks!!

Sorry for all the misspellings of sponsorship on my part. I just noticed that. Sometimes I type fast and don't notice these things until afterwards. Bad spelling is one of my biggest pet peeves! lol

MJ, send me a message and I'll see if I can get you some info.

Lol, I am SO behind. Still haven't bought anything. No immunizations/titers/physical/BLS class. Lol. Then again, I AM a procrastinator and I've been super, super busy. Like--no sleep, busy.

Anywho, I am going on the 30th for all of my shots and stuff. I need to call around for the BLS. And I just realized my last class for English Comp II is the same day as Orientation, annnnnd I have a final that day. I should probably speak with the professor on Monday. Lol.

I am just going to laugh at this point. I am so excited, and yet, so tired. Things always work out. All of my books and supplies are going on my Pell aside the stethoscope. Ay ay ay.

I missed the Sponsorship meeting due to my daugther recovering from surgery( Much better now that she can breathe more deeply). Dumb question what is WIA and if I have to quit my job to do the RN program am I still eligible for it?

And my last dumb question does anyone know when we can use our PELL at the bookstore? I know it usually goes by credit hours you have (I am above 30 CH at this point in time). I just want to be able to get what I need from the Store ASAP and have it at home where I can have a look over.

Oh one last thing does anyone know how long it takes for Financial Aid to process the Direct Loan Applications? I sent in 1 1/2 week ago. Full of questions and I am exhausted.

Evansmum, hang in there! I know it must be so hard juggling everything all at once, but it'll all work out I'm sure! :)

Kchandler, I'm glad your daughter is doing alot better! Now about WIA you can be eligible for WIA even if you are working if you meet the guidelines. Do you have that golden paper with the info on the Bayonet Sponsorship still from our packets? It has the guidelines that explain if you can qualify for WIA. I think for a family of 3 you have to make under $53,500 a year.

We will be able to use Pell for our books starting August 16th if you have more than 30-40 credits and August 17th or 18th for less. Not exactly sure the amount of credits needed per day but somewhere in that range. If you call the bookstore they will give you the exact day for the credits you have. I know the 16th is the first day for sure.

I believe the Direct Loans take about a month or 5 to 6 weeks from what financial aid told me.

HTH! :)

Thanks Yaz it's everything is getting so close now and I'm still working full time my last day of work will be 8/20 yep to the very end. So I'm trying not to freak out about floating the family while I'm in school for two years.

I said scrapworking but I meant Amandachels lol. Were you there last night??[/quote']

Hey, so sorry I haven't been able to get on the thread in a while. But, Yes MJ I was there for the CPR class. I was wondering if you were on this site! :) Sorry I was very quiet during, I almost passed out from heat exhaustion when I first arrived. :) I saw your name on the sign in sheet and thought maybe??? but, wasn't sure. I liked our instructor that night

Ahh! Where were you sitting? That's so funny. I was with my younger sister, I was the one to point out that she had had CPR performed on her when she was little. I am so thankful that that man saved her life, I tell everyone about the importance of CPR. You would think I was her mom the way I brag lol.

Well I was right on the other side of her! Your sister:) And THAT was a pretty amazing story. I actually went home and told my hubby about that one. The man must've been her guardian angel. I am getting so excited and counting down to Orientation, but getting everything in order is taking its toll on me....but its all worth it. So next time we see eachother we will know it!
