PHCC Fall 2010 (LPN/BRIDGE/RN)

Published

Hi all :)

I decided to start a new thread since the last one has something like 275 comments. It's a tad overwhelming!

Any questions, concerns, comments, etc regarding Pasco-Hernando Community College's programs? This is your thread:nurse:

We have decided on a meeting time and place. Here are the details:

When: Saturday evening, July 17, 7pm til whenever.

Where: Brass Tap in Wiregrass

Why: Faces to usernames :) lol--Seriously, won't it be great to meet the people who have been stressing out with us for the past several months?

If you have questions about the plan, feel free to pm me :) Also, if anyone has any brilliant ideas on how to recognize one another, feel free to share!

Jenn

RN-to-be...

I said scrapworking, but I meant Amandachels lol. Were you there last night??

That's really great, scrap--I missed out on that bc I missed the Monday meeting. They should place a lot more heavy emphasis on that session than they do in the letter in the packet. I started calling the morning of the 19th for info, never got any return calls until yesterday at which time I was pretty much told everything was filled up...so, having 3 young ones (and an unavailable ex, busy friends, busy life and no money for a sitter) and not much desire to leave them unattended at the dinner hour...sealed that deal for me. Ah well.

Live and learn (and continue to thank the Lord for Visa & MasterCard).

I am NOT bitter, I swear :) Disappointed, sure. Who wouldn't be? I am very excited for those of you who get the s-ships! Yay:up:

Unrelated to this thread but...LOL--today, the CPR instructor said chest compressions should be quick, like, to the beat of "Stayin Alive"...(came on Pandora now, reason for the random post...)..or "3 blind mice"...and another song that is best shared via pm only but was too funny :) Instructor did a GREAT job :)

Hi All!!

I was originally selected as an Alternate for the Nursing Program but I received my letter today saying a spot had opened up. I am so excited! Can I ask some advice? I have to play catch up now...what do I need to do ASAP? Thanks so much:)

LOL that's too funny! My instructor last summer told us the same thing about doing compressions to the beat of "Stayin Alive". Wonder if it was the same guy? He was kinda cute and also a police officer or something like that.

pm other song please ;)

CONGRATS! First, celebrate and enjoy for a few weeks :)

Read this thread and the others and pm as needed.

So happy for you!

Congrats!!! Was it for RN? That's great news for you!!! I'm surprised someone turned their spot down. I guess it happens and worked in your favor :) Yes any advice you need or help ask away or pm. :)

Also what area do you live in?

Went to the interview today for Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point on their sponsorship program. It was a lot more relaxed than I think we were told, but I felt that it went really well. They told us we should have an answer back by next Thursday. I like that they're going to be Trauma II certified in 18mos-2years.

Yeah it wasn't bad at all! I think I got it because my director who interviewed me gave me her number and said to call back to work as an RN intern right after finishing Fundamentals.

I can't wait to be doing all this stuff hands on and starts to feels like second nature.

Yes, for the RN program. I was surprised anything opened up...definitely was not expecting it! Hope to meet you all soon :)

EXACTLY!! (though nervous!!) Good luck!

Jenn - I talked to the contact at Oak Hill and he said all his were filled right now too, but if I hadn't found anything by November to give him a call back...since we can't really do anything yet (since we don't know anything!), we wouldn't start these internships until after Fundamentals (semester 1). So, I wouldn't count them out yet... I would mark your calendar and try them both back about that time frame (esp before the holidays get crazy) and see if anyone has dropped out/declined. Once school starts, anything can happen! (or sooner as in DivaMommy007's case! Congrats!!)

Yaz/Becky - anyone catch the name of the talkative blonde girl? Is she on here by chance?

DivaMommy007 - get everything done that has to be returned for orientation, would be my advice. That way you're ready to go for clinicals when they start. Physical, titers/immunizations, CPR, background check, forms....

Yaz/Becky - anyone catch the name of the talkative blonde girl? Is she on here by chance?

Scrapworking, her name is Leighann, she is the wife of my husband's ex co-worker from three years ago and we just met up recently because we're both going for the same thing and live only ten minutes away from each other (small world). She's on fb and I think you already added her though. Oh Becky isn't on allnurses either. I don't think forums are really their thing. Goodluck to you too!

Jenn, maybe you can still get WIA without the sponsorship? I know they mentioned that at the meeting that you can qualify for WIA money even if you don't want to work for Bayonet Point. So maybe you can still try for that? Sorry they didn't have room for you. :(

I am officially done with all the paperwork, physical stuff, and running around for the RN orientation! My titers came back on Thursday and I'm immune to MMR and Varicella! My arm's still sore from the tetorifice shot though. And got my first Hep B. Thank goodness all I need to do is make a few copies of my background check and CPR card back & front and I can relax a teeny bit.:)

Hey guys,

I heard you guys saying that the sponsorships are full? I have the orientation meeting on the 3rd after PHCC's orientation... I'm just wondering why they would set an appointment up for me if they were full? I'm starting to get concerned since I need a sponsorship or scholarship or else things will go badly... Like, me not going to school badly... :(
