I want to meet some of you! I'm just getting ready to take my last 3 finals, have been studying for the TEAS for months now, and will be able to apply for next fall's nursing program (YAYAY!) I'd love to hear from some potential future classmates, how you are doing/ did with pre-reqs/ TEAS, and share the excitement upon acceptances!
Anyone else have midterms this week!? I've got my proctored stats exam tomorrow morning! AH!
Mids this weekend for Dev. Psych (Lifespan)... What's nice about the stats one is that its multiple choice and if you plug your numbers in and don't get one of the answers you KNOW you are wrong So, you get to plug it in again and viola! Another thing I loved it when I couldn't remember which formula I should use I tried a couple of them and sure enough! There was one of the choices
Aced every one! (Except that silly stuff I told you about...
)
...insane amount of stuff to learn in only about 10 days.Good luck with your stats exam. I'm dreading the day when I take stats because I am horrible with wordy formula problems - I have to put in so much more study time to get the hang of the material.
I agree, that's a tough class to take over the Summer! Understand the concepts and the details will follow :)
Stats is wordy, yes, but it's all about the formulas. There are millions of them!!! Ok, not millions, but it felt like it. Either way, once you know what they are asking for you just use a chart of formulas, stick the numbers into a trusty Ti-83 and it does the work for you. The Ti-83 has the majority of the formulas programed so you just enter the numbers and it does the work for you. You just have to know what formula to use.
Good to know - thanks! I probably wont take stats until next summer though. If I get in, my plan of action is to take fundamentals and micro, then just adult nursing alone, then over the summer stats, ethics, and spanish, then the rest to follow except for Lifespan since I'm taking that now.
I really want to learn spanish because I think that will be really helpful. My second language is greek so I think it would be awesome to have a third, especially since spanish is the second language around here.
I just got home from a frantic run around the NPR/Lutz/LOL/WC radius trying to find a TI-83 or 84...Walmart in Lutz ended up having just ONE left in stock! Nothing like a little procrastination! I guess I should have read my syllabus a little more thoroughly...our professor is not allowing the use of StatCrunch, so I would have really been in a pickle! I also thought that the calculator was optional like in Algebra, but no such luck...glad I just happened to see and I am DEFINITELY looking forward to having a calculator find the standard deviation for me; finding it by hand is a headache and a half!
@Scarlet: My premed is going to be a double major in Bio and Spanish!! :-) We can learn together! I took 4 years in high school, but I've (unfortunately) lost quite a bit of it! I've heard that there are so many opportunities in healthcare for those who are able to speak Spanish fluently...I even think bilingual professionals get a higher salary?
Yes, study buddies! :)
I'm dont know if they get paid more but I would think it looks great on your resume.
When I worked in the hospital they would often float me to different floors translating greek. I loved helping those who werent able to otherwise communicate. They would hug me and thank me over and over because they felt alone in the dark. With the spanish language being so common here, I think its essential to know at least some of it when working in health care.
I did the same thing, figuring it all out by hand, then got a hold of another Micro Lab classmate's Ti83 and thought: WOW! This would have been nice the last two months! If you check the tech info pages in your Stats book they will tell you how to get practically EVERYTHING just from the calculator. You will fly through the exam, trust me
P.S. Next time search online for which store has what you need - save yourself the time, silly girl...
ScarletJones,
After you get in, try to get the NCLEX app, very interesting!
I am also planning to take Spanish next summer! I'll have no other classes, will finish the AA this year and have taken all the co-reqs of RN.
To your question as to where I come from: I am from Iran, but before ending up here in FL 2.5 years ago, I travelled a lot together with my husband since we both were freelance engineers working for the European companies building large industrial plants in different countries. I've been to almost 40 countries. Persian is my first language, German is 2nd and English is 3rd. I understand some Arabic and a little Russian.
After you get your acceptance, we'll go for coffee!
By the way we used the 8th edition of P&P. The whole set of books and lab kids cost about 400 at the college store. It includes two lab kids: one is the usual one you need to practice skills at the campus (wound dressing, catheter, etc..) which you get with your books. But you also pay for the 2nd one which includes all the "sharpies" and you do not get it for safety reasons, they keep it for you and you get to use it as of 2nd semester, I don't know how that works exactly until Fall.
I went to the store to see if I can get my books for Fall, they'll not have them until late July. Based on the estimates we got, the 2nd semester books cost 530 at the store. But I can get them all for 350 (or less) on Ebay or Amazon. You might wanna check that too. The only thing is that some of the books come with a code access to the electronic version which comes only with the new ones not the used ones (even those are cheaper online too).
Just to quench everyone's thirst for 'knowing'... I just spoke to the admissions specialist in charge of sending out the letters for the programs (for another reason). Her words are that she is "anticipating hearing from the committee so that she can start sending out the letters and have them out by the first week of July". I'm taking that as she doesn't have the info yet so don't expect any letters this week. Sorry I don't have more exciting news, but I guess anticipate a little bit of a further wait.
