PHCC Fall 2010 applicants? You out there??

Published

:-)

Well, I am finished with the pre-reqs, as of December. Have taken the TEAS once but will take it again. I have met with a few advisors and one prof in the nursing dept on East. I cannot get any clear and concise information really and it's frustrating. My GPA is relatively low, comparatively (sp?) and I am trying to guage my actual chances of getting into the program. I am only applying to PHCC (either campus) and the not knowing is killing me.

So where is everyone else? I am ready to get my stuff turned in. And then the wait.

Yes... they are...I'm con-currently at SPC and everything transfers back and forth between the 2 schools, so if I get accepted at PHCC for the RN program, graduate, get my RN license, I can then go back to SPC for my BSN. I checked at both PHCC and SPC on that.

Good luck!

I will apply with a 3.41 It is what it is. I can't change it.

Hi!

I have a few questions and I have scoured these message boards, but I can't seem to find the answers. I received a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry in 2008.

1) Do I have to submit my highschool transcripts if I have already obtained a B.S. and my college transcripts show I have a highschool diploma?

2) Also, along the same lines. Do I have to submit AP,SAT,ACT scores ect., if I already have a BS?

3) Does PHCC review the nursing applications and make acceptance decisions as they come in? Or, do they wait until the end of the application window May 1st and review them all at the same time?

4) How hard is the the TEAS test? Is it similar to the SAT's? Did you study for it a lot prior t taking it? Are the scores available instantly or do you have to wait a few weeks?

I apologize in advance for the laundry list of questions. Please, answer what you can if you know anything :) Goodluck to all!

Here's my understanding based on what I've read on PHCC's website and in general about most colleges...to be 100% sure though, I highly recommend calling the college and/or making an appointment to see a counselor about your specific situation.

Since you already have a BS, most colleges won't need to see your high school transcripts. It should be noted on your college transcripts, as you've mentioned.

No, you shouldn't need the AP, SAT, ACT test scores as these are all tests to gain acceptance into college, obviously you were accepted!

All the nursing applications received by the deadline are all evaluated at once. The decision making panel meets in mid-June and letters should be out by the end of June. Expect some minor shuffling as some applicants may move to other programs, change their minds, be accepted to other schools, etc. http://phcc.edu/academics/programs/ADNgenericFAQ.pdf

From what I've seen in my TEAS study guide, some questions are easy, some are hard(er)- it's kind of relevant. Most of it is a refresher from prior learned knowledge. Check out some of the threads on allnurses to get an idea of some of the actual questions people have seen. I'm going to go through the study guide again, then take it this week and see how I do. I have 4 classes (besides 2 at PHCC) at another college this semester, so I don't have a lot of extra study time. You can take it up to 3 times a year, but they have to be 30 days apart. It's computer-based, so you get your scores after you take it. It costs $50 each time you take it and they take whichever scores you submit with the application. http://phcc.edu/academics/programs/app-info-rn-generic.pdf

Even though you have a BS in Chem, you still have to have all the pre-reqs PHCC requires...and depending how long ago these classes were, you may be required to take them again (especially science classes). ASK...never assume.

Good luck!!

Thank you so much "scrapworking" for your very detailed response. I greatly appreciate it :) I will of course ASK and not assume, but I took all my pre-req's between the years of 2005-2008 at Florida State University. I am thinking they will still be valid as they were taken a Florida state institution and they are less then 10 years old, but we'll see. I guess it won't hurt to study for a couple weeks then take the TEAS, so I am off to barnes and noble for a study guide tomorrow :)

I really wish they took clinical experience into account as I have worked full time as a medical assistant for the past two years and I have been involved in the medical field for the past 9 years in some capacity.

Jess...in one of the ATI threads here, there's a link to a study guide (free), or you can get one at the PHCC bookstore ($38 and change) or go online to atitesting.com and get a study guide and access to online practice tests (maybe $60?).

Hope everything transfers for you! And yes, I wish they did some sort of interview or place on the application where you could provide information like experience, volunteering, references, etc. You'd think that would be helpful.

Hi,

I am applying. I have a gpa of 3.46. I took the teas a while ago and I can't find my score report but I just called and someone is going to call me and tell me what my score is. I'll post it here when I know. I will probably take the teas again since the first time I tested with literally no preparation. Does anyone know what the hours for the program are?

Allison

Allison - you can also go to the ATI website and log in to see and print your scores. That's assuming you took your test online at your school through their site.

Thanks! That totally worked. I got an 88. So, like I said, I had not studied/prepared at all so I'm hoping I can pull my score up at least a couple points.

So as of now, 88 TEAS and 3.46 gpa

Allison

Allison, I feel like we could be parallel universe twins! My middle name is Allison, I have a 3.41 GPA and an 88% TEAS. Plus, we are both applying to PHCC. Though it looks like like .05 puts you ahead of me so I hope you don't take my spot! j/k ! lol

Oh good there is someone out there!! What campus are you on? I am taking A&P II right now in Dade City. I am going Friday to take the TEAS for my 2nd time, hoping to bring my results up at least 5% points.

May I ask who you are taking A&P II with? I am considering taking at the Dade City campus during the summer.

I will also be applying to bothe the RN amd LPN programs for Fall 2010.

Hi Everyone, does anyone have an idea of the GPA needed to get accepted into the fall bridge program at PHCC...and, of course, what TEAS score is pretty much a guarantee into the program? If you all are currently taking classes there, is there any inside scoop? Any how competitive the bridge program is?
