Peth test

Published

Experience please.

I have been sober for 6 months and had a slip up 8/8. I had 3 glasses of wine and a shot after being sober 6 months. I got a white chip and have started over. Well I was required to take a Peth test 8/22 14 days later. Do you think this would show up? I know it says 3-4 weeks for heavy drinking, but it was one night w 6 months of prior abstinence.

PLEASE do not respond with a lecture or anything besides experience with Peth testing. I know the mistake I’ve made and am already really beating myself up

Looks like it is a standard 12 item panel so if you have been steering clear of MJ and her 11 good friends you should be ok. There is a small chance they may check for ETFG but it's a very expensive add-on which most employers won't go to the extra expensive.

So most pre-employment screen won’t test for alcohol. You might want to look up what they are testing. Alcohol won’t stay longer for 24 hrs. Unless it’s also a ETG test. But I don’t think would do that

I searched the website of the lab and they do provide an ETG test on urine. Can I call the lab and ask what substances they will test per my employer? Will they give me that information?

I hope they won't test on that. But hospitals are rich, they spend money on everything except hiring nurses that's why there's always a shortage... Do you think the lab will tell me what substances they will test on me if I ask?

Hello everyone. I know this thread is only about the peth test. But I am so worried about my pre-employment drug screen and I hope you guys can help me.

I have been drinking around 1 glass of wine every day for half a year. I got an offer last Friday and we had a party to celebrate yesterday (Sunday). I had two cocktails, a glass of wine, and 1 bear. I definitely didn't expect to receive the drug test request from the employer so soon and it has to be done in 2 days (Wednesday 5pm). It is a urine test, I don't know what substance they will test, but the description of the test is "FM-590PP Non-DOT Urine". Is anyone familiar with this name? Does this include an alcohol test?

I am so worried about this test now, do you think I will get a positive result for alcohol?

Thanks so much for reading, no matter you have an answer for me or not!!!

God bless everyone!

Well, as long as you are not on a monitoring contract/board order, even if they found traces of alcohol, that shouldn't be something to be worried about.

Alcohol is not illegal and I am not sure that many employers care if you drink on your off hours.

You should be okay.

I don't understand why they would do that either, but I did hear that some hospitals are doing that on the pre-employment drug screen, and if they paid to test that, I think that means alcohol matters to them. I just hope this hospital is not one of those...

Thanks for your reply, I did feel better now after all your information. I was so worried yesterday that I could not eat anything...

Hi,

I am a pilot who got a false positive peth test. During my research I’ve found Nurses have an unusually high occurrence of them. I’m slowly getting quite a library of good evidence showing it’s just plain not reliable.

Ill be going to an arbitration hearing soon to dispute my termination based on that peth test. So many of your stories are so similar to mine, I’d love to talk to whomever is will to, to find similarities, patterns, what ever.

The short story here is:

26 June ETG/ETS negative, random test.

1 May ETG/ETS, positive at 117 ETG, negative ETS. Considered abnormal, and my creatinine was over 250. Ordered a peth.

9 May PeTH positive at 98. No drinking ever...

16 May PeTH negative at LOD 20.

16 May hair etg negative, six month coverage.

17 May PeTH negative at LOD 8.

20 June hair etg negative, 3 month coverage.

And a year before and after randoms all negative.

One of these things is not like the others...

Mike

Yeah many of us live in fear of the false positive. None of these tests are 100% accurate and if you take them long enough over a long period of time it seems to me that the odds would indicate a false positive over time. Further that doesn’t take into account lab errors, sample contamination or plain human errors. If the FBI can lose evidence or mix it up with all their resources, training and expertise don’t you think the same (or worse) can happen at the pee test factory?

Of course I do. And all of that goes without saying, still falls on deaf ears. I’m starting to uncover more scientific and discrete issues. Hematocrit normalization, cards not being dried as directed and not even recorded, a recent German study showing where subjects popped positive after repeated washing of hands in 70% ethanol, uh, like hand sanitizer.

Shoot me an email if you don’t mind, [email protected]

thanks!

@SpankedInPittsburgh ??? Sorry! I know this is a serious, scary topic for nurses in monitoring. But I just read your comment tonight- and you made me laugh out loud! Pee Test Factory...I instantly visualized factory workers standing there with thousands & thousands of pee specimen cups rolling down the assembly line... then someone yelling, “STOP THE LINE, GUYS, WE’VE GOT A POSITIVE ONE HERE”!!!

Shew! Imagine the pungent ammonia smell in THAT factory! ??

Yep and I’m all sure they are the finest minimum wage (or close to it) can buy. It’s the same with the inpatient rehab I was in. $600 a day x 60 residents to be monitored by minimum wage ex addicts for 90% of the time. These things Are money machines pure and simple

Ex addicts? Percentage wise, I saw more “counselors” relapse than patients while I was ‘in’.

That and for a few thousand extra bucks, you can pay to be a novice counselor for your last month... geesh

Ya, they’re a money makin racket.
