Personal goal statement not so good but good grades.. Will I get in?

Published

just curious your opinion and yeah I know no one knows but I wrote a personal goal statement and just don't like it and not sure how to make it better. I've had family look at it some. I have really good grades and good g p a. I can write a paper just fine but not this for some reason. I have plenty of nursing experience. Could I still get in fnp program if the personal statement is not good but good grades and gpa and nursing experience ?

Depends on the school. If your experience is solid with really good recommendations, and your essay is coherent, my guess is that you have a good chance. I wasn't all that crazy about my essay either, but I got in, no problem.

Best of luck to you.

As stated above, I think they look at your entire application. I'm not sure how heavy the personal goal statement is weighed when it comes to admission, but if it's anything like undergrad, I wouldn't sweat it too much. I'm getting ready to apply to programs and I've got that personal goal statement looming over my head to write. I think if you touch on all 3 of the criteria (why you want to be an NP, career goals, future), you should be good.

Best of luck to you! I'm hoping to get accepted for a Fall 2017 start :)

Make sure you hit all of the points they want you to write about. My program told me specifically to hit every point they ask; they want to ensure you can follow simple directions. Don't go too much over the word limit; make it short and concise, but interesting enough to make them want to keep reading. Remember, they probably have a ton of personal statements to read, don't bore them. Give examples of your attributes with experience, not just "I am a team player; I am a hard worker," but make sure you elaborate on that.

Good Luck!
