Persistence is paying off...

I was informed tonight that I was professionally recommended by the October Navy board for direct commission. Not out of the woods yet but this has been an incredibly tough process. This community solidified my resolve and helped me with keeping hope alive, for this I am truly thankful. Sometime in a couple days I'll post a timeline in regard to my process. Until then, everyone be good to themselves :]

Thanks Bfrei, I agree with you on the beauty of NHB. I was there when I was an HM3, my wife would LOVE it if we get stationed there, but I'm like you. I need a change of scenery :] But in the end...Happy wife, Happy life.

Did you swear in yet?

That's what I forgot to say, my recruiter told me they're waiting on the final funding numbers for FY12. Once congress comes up with a decision (biting my tongue) our orders will be sent out. She said, under normal circumstances it would've taken a week. But now maybe 2 weeks to 1 month.

I guess I haven't written 15 posts so I can't PM yet. :) Oldlove we will be in the same ODS class. Navynursehopeful, any news yet?

Specializes in Cardiac.

I'm new to these posts but I've been following for a while. I've applied for navy nurse this year. Started my packet on September 29 and finished October 29th. Passed MEPS and got my recommendations and all that. My review date was for Nov 9 but haven't heard anything. I have 3 years experienced in an acute care setting, specifically cardiac, in a hospital. I've been told I have a strong packet with all my experience and GPA however, I've been told most positions for general nursing have been pretty much filled. Has anybody heard anything? Has anyone heard how many openings they have this year vs how many they have left? Anyway, wish me luck, probably will need it.

bfrei, I PM'ed you. Not sure if you can receive those or not.

Rafael, are you Progressive Care (Cardiac/medsurg) or Cardiac ICU? If you're cardiac icu you won't just be a general 2900 (Nurse) but will be specialized. I was given ER classification 1945. Time frames are a funny thing when it comes to the military, altogether my kit took 2 years to complete. It takes about 3 - 6 weeks from the time you submit your kit to finding out the results. Sometimes longer, so as I'm sure you've heard, be patient. It's out of your hands at this point.

As far as billets being filled. For us who were accepted recently, I asked the community detailer how many positions were filled and he told me 50. In your case I'm not sure how many they're looking for, it might depend on the budget congress gives us for FY 12. I'm sure you've read or heard that Leon Panetta wants no budget cuts to the military, but really it's not up to him.

Basically, my opinion is you'll find something out in the next week or so. Just in case they say something less than desirable. Just know that they told me "NO" twice and I stuck it out for two years.

Members with fewer than 15 posts can receive PMs, just not send them. :)
