Persistence is paying off...

Specializes in Emergency.

I was informed tonight that I was professionally recommended by the October Navy board for direct commission. Not out of the woods yet but this has been an incredibly tough process. This community solidified my resolve and helped me with keeping hope alive, for this I am truly thankful. Sometime in a couple days I'll post a timeline in regard to my process. Until then, everyone be good to themselves :]

Congrats! I know it is a lengthy process, must feel nice to finally get some positive results from all that paperwork.

I just found out I've been prof. rec. too, so I guess I am right up there with you. Such great news, but still more nail biting ahead!

Congrats to both of you! I graduate and commission in May and will be joining you soon! Maybe see you out there! Yes, it's worth it!!!

So awesome! Congrats as well!

Like I said earlier, for people who've been pro-recc'd we're not out of the woods yet. But here is my timeline like promised, hopefully this can help some people :]

September 2009: Spoke with recruiter (face to face)

October 2009: Ladder program for RN-BSN started. Recruiter requested my service records from prior military service. Started turning in letters of rec.

December 2009: Went to MEPS. Needed a waiver for Heartburn. Also completed two officer interviews this month as well.

January 2010: Got waiver for heartburn, for those needing medical waivers, I told my doc to put "Fit for full duty" in the request.

February 2010: Completed the National Security screening online.

March 2010: Was told that I wouldn't qualify for Navy NCP. Would have to wait for August boards for direct commission.

August 2010: Bad news, wasn't selected for active duty due to 'not having enough experience' -- Even though I've been an ER Nurse for two years. I respectfully asked to have another recruiter because the first one I had was just doing the medical department a favor. Plus he wasn't familiar with medical side (his own admission). Nice guy though. Anyway, second recruiter is PHENOMENAL! First thing she told me was, "We're going to do whatever it takes to get you back in uniform." I asked her that I was willing to go reserves if it would help. We explored every option.

September/October 2010: No room in the USN-Reserves or Active side. I was an official 'Non-Select' Back to the drawing board. (Getting depressed) Was told that for 2011, it was pretty much full and that we would revisit my kit 3 - 4 months later. (Super depressed) Oh yeah, Finished BSN program.

March 2011: From September last year to now, just doing and re-doing paperwork that expired or needed an update.

April 2011: Still no room in the reserves.

June 2011: My recruiter spoke with me about the reserves. "I have a feeling that you really want active so I'm going to try and put you in as that. But just in case we'll put both." She's a mind-reader! She also said be patient, the Nurse board won't start again until August 2011.

August 2011: My kit was sent to the board only to have it kicked back out. Was told the board is going to meet in October instead.

September 2011: Wrote my "Please reconsider me" Letter.

October 2011: Kit went to board.

October 13, 2011 @2000: Informed I've been Pro-Recc'd.

Currently: Hurry up and waiting again. :]

Be patient everyone, persistence truly is the name of the game here. If you want it bad enough, you'll get for it. Only a few people ever get to hear the calling for service. Stick it out and pick yourself up. Taking a cue from P90x, Decide. Commit. Succeed. :]

Agreed. If you show your recruiter that you really want it, they will work hard for you (aside from some bad apples as is always the case). I can't tell you how many people I have seen that let the ball drop and then act surprised that no one wants to help them out. If you don't have prior military experience, I guess you don't really understand the whole "hurry up and wait" concept.

Hello everyone,

Found out I was professionally recommended yesterday also. Anyone familiar with the process from here on out? My recruiter is not one of the most helpful ones. I was handed down to him at the time my kit went to board since my other recruiter retired.

I was told that now we just have to wait until they figure out the official approved number of applicants allowed before the final selections are sent out. I am not sure how long this will be, but I'm praying it won't be that long!

I was also professionally recommended for direct accession this friday. I will be graduating from nursing school this December. I kept hearing that the odds were against me but darn it feels good to hear some good news! To all you new grads out there: There is still hope! I guess I am one of the lucky ones but I was able to do this all in one shot. Started applying in May, Sent my kit off in July, and Got pro-rec'd in just now. I'm excited to hear when final selections will be coming, but from what I have heard it's pretty much a done deal from this point. Congratulations again to everyone out there who made it!

Found out Friday I was professionally recommended as well. My recruiter told me I'd hear about final selection in approx. 2 weeks! Good luck to us all!

It was my first time putting in a Kit for review also. I have also been told it should be a matter of a few weeks to hear something about final selection, but after reading some of the posts on here....not sure what to think anymore! Trying not to stress too much!
