Pearson Vue Trick: Is it accurate? Do you know anyone who paid using their CC and passed?

Published

I took my NCLEX yesterday. Went all the way to 265 questions. I had gotten a lot of infection control questions, 30 SATA, a lot of priority qs and delegations. I was exhausted. I tried the PVT online when I got home, I it took me straight to the CC page, went through. I want to pay for the quick results, but it says it is not available yet, I have to wait 48 hours for it to be available. I am devastated. I check my AMEX card but the $200 is still pending. I do not know if I pass. I thought at first I did, since I was getting really high level of questions. But because I did the PVT, and went to the CC page, I lost HOPE. Can anyone tell me, if they know someone, who had gotten charged 200 dollars and passed? I do not mind to pay the 200 dollars, as long as I passed. Super sad here. Been crying all day, and I feel like I am such a failure. :'(

But when I check my AMEX card account, the amount has not posted yet.

That has nothing to do with PV/the trick and everything to do with how charges get processed by banks and credit card companies. It's the same thing when you swipe your card before pumping gas - it puts a temporary "hold" on your account and then the actual charge goes through within a couple of days.

Good luck, keep us posted however it works out. A retake is definitely not the end of the world, but totally understand the frustration and disappointment.

I took my exam this morning (01-28; 0800). I tried to register again, went through the appropriate steps, and clicked submit. The website stated my "registration was acknowledged" and my card was charged $200. I've been an absolute nervous wreck since I clicked submit and didn't get the message most other received. I have been reading through another thread on this site stating that it is possible for the system to charge you $200, especially if you try to register after the first grading period (a.k.a. you failed the exam), but after the second grading period the student ultimately passes the NCLEX-RN exam. Trying to make sense of any of this is leading down a path towards an anxiety attack. I remain hopeful, that I am lucky enough to be that small percentage that still passes the exam even though Pearson Vue charged my credit card. Looking at the big picture having this loss of $200 is just a very small bump on the road to financial freedom.

i did it, waited about 5 hours after i completed my exam, put in a debit card with all the correct info but made sure it had less than $200, it gave me the good popup of "our records indicated blah blah blah"

next morning, not even 24 hours from when i completed my exam, i had a license number saying i passed.

You did it too soon. The first grading may or may not be accurate. You cannot attempt the trick again or guaranteed a false result.

The second grading is within the first twenty four hours hence why some have licenses at hour 20. You have no way of knowing if your QC 2nd scoring was done (it's definitely not immediate). Had you waited 24hrs you likely failed. Since you chose not to wait no one knows for certain.

The most common "false" results (pass OR fail) from the PVT occur when the candidate fails to wait 24 hrs. Just 2 weeks ago someone had a "good" pop up a few hours after the test but wasn't satisfied and kept resubmitting their info and finally they were charged by the 24 HR mark. They ultimately failed.

A few others were charged and passed

Do not try again. Now you must wait for quick results or your BoN. If you failed you already paid for the next registration. If you passed you may have donated $200.

I'm in the same boat, too. I just took it this afternoon, 01/28/16. When the screen shuted down at 265 questions...I don't know how I feel about it. Three quarters of the questions I got are infection control and priority questions. There is one time I got 20+ priority questions in a row. I thought maybe I keep giving the wrong answer, so I'm reaching the 95% competency. I counted and I only got 16 SATA and 4 medication questions out of all 265 questions! I'm too scared to do the PVT tonight. But I don't know if I should do it, because if I fail I would have to re-register anyway?

From what I've read, the PVT is most reliable when done 24 hours after the test. Most people are opting to input the WRONG expiration date on their card to avoid getting charged in the event that Pearson tries.

For some people who ran out of time or went all the way to 265 questions, I heard the PVT is not as reliable ... for a few, the second quality control seems to have overturned the first grading result. Hoping you get good news!!

Putting the wrong expiration date will NOT prevent a charge whether attempting the PVT or anywhere else. Be forewarned

Are you saying that even if your inputted credit card info is incorrect, it can still charge your card? I thought I read somewhere of someone using the wrong expiration date and bad pop up highlighted that card was declined due to missing/incorrect info and good pop up denied another registration?

Well, I guess bottom line, the safest thing is to just wait for the board to give you official results. LOL :)

Yes. It happened here and sadly it was a debit card. Another member and I did it (separately) accidentally while shopping online. I put the card number for one and expiration of my old (unexpired) card and the charge went through. The system checks card validity so declined for inaccurate card data (wrong card #, wrong CVV) is not indicative of pass fail. I could do that now with my results as pass, try to reregister for the exam I passed and get an inaccurate card error for entering a wrong card or CVV #. Expiration not so much as cards cross in the mail

Did they make the Pearson Vue trick more high stakes or something? As I remember it, when I took my NCLEX 6 years ago it wouldn't even bring you to the screen to enter your credit card info if you had passed, when you clicked the button to re-register it gave the response about "...please contact your member board of nursing."

It changed in August 2014 after a system update that everyone goes to the credit card page to risk $200 to attempt the trick. There is also no "results delivered" so you know the second scoring was complete

I used a prepaid card with like 6 bucks left on it. Still got the good popup no need to risk using your regular bank card
