I was contemplating working at a hospital as a pct/nurse tech after my first semester of nursing school and wondering the approx. pay.
thanks:nuke:
I'm an acute psychology dept PCA in So Cal. That means cna plus phlebotomy and ekg certification. $19.95/ 3-11/ Saturday, Sunday, and whatever other days I can pick up. Sucks to be per diem but since I start an RN program in January, hopefully this is a schedule I can make do for the 2 years it will take to get through RN program. I also have a BA in Psychology. I love my job.
A PCA in an acute Psyke dept is more than a CNA. Most have a degrees in Psychology or are working towards a degree in some area of Mental Health/Nursing. They have to have a year experience as a CNA, Phlebotomy certification (in California you must complete a 3 month program, pass a test and complete continuing education units every year) and have competed an EKG Cardiac (3month class) certification.
The cost of living is horrendous out here. I drive 35 miles one way. The 2 bedroom condo my fiancee rents for us is $1500/month and gas is $3.00 /gal here. I work every weekend, 3-11. The money is good but California is an expensive place to live.
I can'y believe that CNAs are making 20 an hour in some states! I live in Ky and the most I have ever made as a CNA was 11.00 an hour! and RNs here start out around 21.00.... Hopefully one day I can move outta state!
Yep you need to get out of KY and earn some major dough....not that your earning something good already ya know? I figure anything over $20 is good. I know LVNs' who do agency make $33.oo so you would definately be in the $40 and higher range easy...(agency wise of course)

Careful, I'd rather make $11 in most parts of KY than $20 in California, Northeast, or Chicago.

What is the starting rate in St Petersburg between hospitals and nursing homes? Also, during my online searches, I've noticed that a lot of companies say you have to have at least 1 yr minimum exerience as a CNA. If this is the case, where am i supposed to get started at as a CNA? I will be moving to the area in October. I will be transfering a NC CNA cert. to FL. Any advice would help
. Thank you.
