PBSC Spring 2011 hopeful......

Published

Applied to PBSC RN Program for Spring 2011. Playing the waiting game. I decided to apply to the Belle Glade Campus.....

As far as the instructors go, don't waste your time trying to figure that out. You are going to find out that the entire first semester class will be sitting together in the same lecture class. Every lecture instructor teaches a part. One week you have so and so, the the next week you have whoever else. Picking an actual instructor doesn't mean anything, even for skills lab and clinicals. You wind up getting who you get, and you'll have 2 different clinical instructors in 1st semester (one for acute care and one for long term care). Neither of my instructors are the person i "picked". You will experience all of them. The instructor i picked turned out to be my "mentor", so maybe thats where it comes into play. I have not met a bad instructor. Their attitude depends on YOU. Especially in the skills lab.

Just get ready for a wild ride. Things change everyday and you have to keep up. The days of breezing through and getting all "A's" are over. The goal is just keeping you head above water. I heard yesterday that as much as 40-45% of my class is failing, maybe more. Say goodbye to your significant other, and tell them you'll see them in 2 years.

P.S. You may have been the smartest student in all of your classes, but now there are 90 of you together. Get ready to be humbled. I'm not trying to scare you. I'm just saying that this program requires 10x the amount of effort that was spent in pre-req's, and if you can't give that effort it's impossible to make it. You will see lots of people disappear.

I can imagine. I'm hoping to take the lecture courses online, so I'm not sure if I'll end up having more than one teacher for that. But thank you for the advice :) I know sometimes you get awful teachers at some schools (and the pre req teachers were definitely not all great), but if the teachers are ALL good for this program that is great!!! I've heard that this program is tough, but that means that the people who get through are going to be able to pass their NCLEX and be great nurses, so I'm game for whatever they can throw at me :D

Online students get a lot of homework. In class, we get little to none. I prefer the class cause you get more face time and some online students complain that they miss stuff. we all take the same test, so I guess it's an individual decision. Just my 2 cents.

If you're taking pharm in 1st semester, you will be testing every week. Lecture test one week, then pharm the next.

Oh, did I mention how much work there is with just lecture, skills lab and clinical? I can't stress that enough. Every week you will learn new skills in skills lab class, then you must check off on them by the next week......on your own time. It is by appointment only, and if there are no appointments left.....too bad, so sad. Depending on your clinical instructor, you will have up to 8 hours of paperwork due every week.

Just trying to prepare those of you that will get in. Manage your time well, and it's somewhat stress free.

Hello all! I received my acceptance email on friday! But Im doing the lpn-rn transition into semester 2. So you guys will be getting your emails soon

Hm, probably. Our inside info (lol!) is saying that those going into semester 1 are on hiatus because they are considering more students or something. They have to tell us soon though, so maybe Monday we will all hear :)

Were they replying to an email from you or it was a standard email they sent to everyone? I haven't seen any emails.
