Tried to get a private loan and they want a co-signer and i don't have anyone that will do that. Can my husband co-sign? I just don't understand why i don't get more aid....all my friends get so much aid and stafford loans and i barley got anything loans, and did not get any grants. I'm really frustrated, by by to nursing school I think is whats going to happen.
I know how hard it is to find money for school. I started my LPN program last month and applied for all the grants and scholarships I possibly could. You should try Fastweb.com. It has many scholarships you can apply for and all you have to is write an essay or something simple like that. I hope this helps and good luck.
Yes money for school was my biggest hurdle which is why I had to spend 2 weeks shopping for low tuition schools. You should have got a finance estimate and seen how much exactly you would get and how much you would owe.
Private schools apparently get less funding, in the beginning I thought my financial aid would cover all costs... I was so wrong.
My tuition is $26,500, 2 academic years, so my Pell grant will knock off about $8,000 of that and my school wants $5,000 upfront in monthly installments so my Federal Stafford Loan will cover the rest.
So I'll owe around 13k after graduation which u got time to pay off.
It's a lot of money and you have to calculate everything before you sign anything.
Sallie Mae Loan still works, I think the loan and interest rate is based on your credit, most likely it'll be under 10% rate I think.
Go talk to your financial aid advisor. They will find out your entire situation, and a lot of the time there is something they can do!!! Just filling out the financial aid application doesn't always give all the information that is needed to get you the money you need. You need to talk to the advisor!
I agree with the other posters, I would talk to your financial aid advisor see what the options are. I was struggling to make my first payment and asked what my options were. She wanted to work with me and help me so that I could afford to go to school. I finally was approved for a private loan and had no financial aid what so ever. I guess you just have to do research online and talk to the people who run the school! Good luck!
Thanks for all the responses, I have been applying for scholarships ever since i got accepted to school. I new i was way short on tuition but my parents were going to help and i had a couple other options. Now its all changed and i need to find a way to finance that money. I am still applying for scholarships without any success yet, and i did apply for many loans all of which i have been denied. I am going to talk to the school tomorrow and see if they can help. I am from Washington but and moving to California for school, so any state assistance i won't qualify for. The school has offered monthly payments while i am in school as a last resort, the payments are 300 a month!!! which doesn't sound like much but after rent and all that other crap i don't think i will be able to swing it. hmmmm can a husband be a cosigner on a loan?

lol $300 a month is also what I'll be paying until I graduate.
Foreign and out of state school students pay a hefty price for tuition, I hope you get things sorted out it's a shame how outrageous tuition prices prevent us from gaining knowledge.
I didn't see it mentioned but, if you happen to be on any type of public assistance you could qualify for WIA- http://www.doleta.gov/Programs/
