My place of employement announced that their will only be a 1% pay increase this year, & for atleast the next 4 after that. This is for all staff not just techs. 1%= less than 10 cents an hour. Also, found out Tech pay cap is around $12/hr. The payrate of 1% increase is not due to the economy. They say its to pay for the upgrades that they are doing.
I `m not certified so I can just go looking for another tech type job. Its not a bad job enivorment, however, thiis doese make it hard pay bills. Would you stay or go? I`m think about going back to the retail business were I can make more.

Why can't you get certified and apply everywhere?
I wouldn't work retail again if you paid me double.

Considering the job market and some have said they get none this year.. if I liked the job I would probably stay...but if dont plan on staying long anyway, may be worth it to look around.

Yeah, honestly not all places even have yearly raises. If the job works for you, I would stick with it for a while. It's not that easy to come across a good job right now. You could apply at new places if you so desire, but I wouldn't leave your job unless you find something that pays better or that would work better for you.

I agree with everyone. If you are unhappy overall it is best to look for another place to work while you have a job all ready. I think I would take whatever I could for the time being with how hard everyone is having it right now.

I think they are messing with you - how do they know the next 4 yrs the economy is going to be bad? A 1% pay raise I would let my dissatifaction be known - still keep my job - get another before quiting. Once you do get another job then let them know - give 2 wks notice. If you go retail no matter what you do - keep your license current. You can do that by offerring your current boss PRN (as needed) or one week-end a month, **In this field you don't burn bridges because everyone crosses eachother some time or another in the future** OR- option 2 just sign up with a agency so you can have extra money when needed and/or with agency just pull a few shifts about a month or two before your license gets ready to expire so you can renew it. That way you always have something to fall back on.

Stay. Your job is more secure than retail. Most aren't getting an increase at all. Stay.

$12 in retail? As a store manager maybe... But if it were me? I wouldn't go back to retail. It's not at all stable in this economy. You may trade off for that extra cash for now, but if the company tanks in this crappy economy- you may end up out of a job with no income...

1% is better no 0% which is what my hospital is paying this year.
I wouldn't quit before I had a sure thing lined up!
