PAX entrance exam

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hey guys, I am new to this site. I have one year of nursing school down but, since my husband is in the military, I have had to find a different school where I can finish my degree. The school in the city that we are PCSing to requires that I take the PAX-NLN entrance exam. Do any of you have any tips for me? Any good review guides? And how does the exam work? We are currently stationed in South Carolina but the school is in Missouri ... do I need to go to Missouri to take the exam? Or should I be able to take it in SC and have it transfer? I'd appreciate all the help I can get.

Hi there,

I used the Jones & Bartlett study guide, mainly for the physics review.

There are 3 different sections: verbal (vocabulary words and reading comprehension), math (lots of fractions, long division), and science (biology, chemistry, physics, earth science).

You may be able to take your PAX exam in your state, but check with your school of interest (as you may have to pay an extra fee, and some sections offered at some colleges are reserved for their prospective students).

Do not spend too much time on the questions since it is timed. My sister-in-law just took it today and didn't make the 60 percentile needed for the ADN program at the school. Now she has to wait 6 months to retake it. When I took it last year, I didn't do so well on the verbal section but did well on the math and science part. I would also suggest you use study guide to review the physics part. There were quite a few questions regarding physics.

There is a book. I have it. If you would like it PM and we can arrange. It's beat up meaning you could tell I used it. But readable and hardly any writing in it.
