I am really confused, can someone please explain to me the pathophysiology of post operative pain?
the patient had an thoractomy
furthermore, they asked me to criticise it, but i am not too sure how to do this.
can anyone help please? im literally in desperate need of help
sorry, ive recently joined here so I am not too sure how this site works.
I was just stuck on whether the pathophysiology of pain is similar to the one of acute pain, and to the one of post surgical pain? or whether it is completely different.
I understand that nociceptive pain occurs when there is a inflamation, so will it be appropriate to say that nociceptive pain is basically post surgical pain?
This is a pretty concise and simple way to sum up pain surgical and otherwise.

Maybe by "criticize" they meant to critically study it. Perhaps you have to look at the process of a thoracotomy and figure out what type of pain a patient would have. Any surgery is trauma, so you have to think about WBC infiltration and swelling. What types of tissue does needs to be cut through during a thoracotomy?
