Passed NCLEX-RN 77 questions & happy :)

First I have to thank God and members of this website. There were days when i felt so sad and when I did so bad on my NLN diagnostic test Silverdragon102 reminded me that it was just a number and I should continue to study until the day of my exam. so if this helps anyone here is what I did:

I graduated May 9th of this year and from what other nurses told me icluding my preceptor i should pay the money for Kaplan. i found out that the hospital I will be working decided that this year they would not be paying for Kaplan so i asked my mom to give me the $400+ she did and I was on my way.

I took a week off after graduation because my family was here but once they left I got down to business, I studied everyday maybe because I do not have kids but my husband was supportive and he gave me my space (God bless him). I started using Kaplans QBANK before the class started to get a handle on things and I did Qtrainer 1, 2 & 3 also before class. There were days when i felt like giving up but knew that my student loans were arriving soon. For those wondering about my Kaplan scores here are they:

Diagnostic 53

Qtrainer 1...57%

Qtrainer 2...49%

Qtrainer 3...52%

Qtrainer 4...57%

Qtrainer 5...49%

Qtrainer 6...62%

Qtrainer 7...61%

Readiness Test 73%

QBANK average 60% ( I did 100% of it)

I went to my Kaplan class everyday even when people were annoying me but i learned from everyone. The teacher was great and when my class ended two weeks ago I was ready, however I could not get an exam date I wanted. She told my class that if we wanted she had another class in 2 weeks and if we wanted to we could attend, my original class had 40 students and only 2 of us decided to use the opportunity she gave us. I learned so much from that 2nd class and it ended 6/11/09 and I decided to test 6/12/09 I was the first from my graduating class. The reason being our teacher told us that if you test 30 days after graduation you have a higher chance of passing and after 60 days it starts to decline (her words just saying what she did).

Fastforward today and after not sleeping for 2 days i did the PV "treat" and this morning at 9:30 am found out that my 77 questions were good enough to pass :yeah: I am happy because I am the first in my family tograduate college, not only with a BSN but as an RN now:nurse:. If I can be of hope to anyone know that no matter where you are from (I am from a small island, trained in the states) you can do anything you put your mind to.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Congratulations and glad I was able to help a little bit. Good luck in your new career

to hopingtobeanRNsoon..

from what i understand.. if you get at least 50% on readiness test... that means you're ready to take NCLEX.. and i think if you get like 55% or above.. you will pass NCLEX.. good luck to you..

I am sorry you only received 30% :( However, I would try to do all the QBANK & Qtrainer questions and READ EVERY rationale even the ones you got right because that helped me so much. I was trying to know every area of nursing and its contents but soon learned that it was too much information. We already went through nursing school, I watched the content for areas where I was weak for me it was pedes and guess what I only had 1 pedes question!

Since you did not finish the test I would ask them for the rationales which is what I did and I looked it over to see what mistakes I made. Don't beat your self down too much Kaplan questions are so hard. Take care and good luck

A 69% is GREAT!! My instructor wanted us to get a 70% and most of my Kaplan class did not. We had a couple students that did worst on the readiness test and they took the exam the same week our class ended and they both passed! I know it is easier said than done but that is a really good score. How did you do on the QTRAINERS?

Good luck, as for pharm I had 2 med calculations and maybe 10 or so meds and I honestly only knew 4 or 5 of them. I was having a hard time with pharm but I watched the pharm question and answer section Kaplan has online. When do you test?

Good luck!! Kaplan did help me a lot and even though I could not apply the strategies to all my questions, Kaplan forced me to think about why the 2 answers were wrong and then why one answer was better than the other. I also had a lot of priority questions and Kaplan taught me how to find the most critical patient first.

Hope that helps
