Nursing Students NCLEX

First I have to thank God and members of this website. There were days when i felt so sad and when I did so bad on my NLN diagnostic test Silverdragon102 reminded me that it was just a number and I should continue to study until the day of my exam. so if this helps anyone here is what I did:

I graduated May 9th of this year and from what other nurses told me icluding my preceptor i should pay the money for Kaplan. i found out that the hospital I will be working decided that this year they would not be paying for Kaplan so i asked my mom to give me the $400+ she did and I was on my way.

I took a week off after graduation because my family was here but once they left I got down to business, I studied everyday maybe because I do not have kids but my husband was supportive and he gave me my space (God bless him). I started using Kaplans QBANK before the class started to get a handle on things and I did Qtrainer 1, 2 & 3 also before class. There were days when i felt like giving up but knew that my student loans were arriving soon. For those wondering about my Kaplan scores here are they:

Diagnostic 53

Qtrainer 1...57%

Qtrainer 2...49%

Qtrainer 3...52%

Qtrainer 4...57%

Qtrainer 5...49%

Qtrainer 6...62%

Qtrainer 7...61%

Readiness Test 73%

QBANK average 60% ( I did 100% of it)

I went to my Kaplan class everyday even when people were annoying me but i learned from everyone. The teacher was great and when my class ended two weeks ago I was ready, however I could not get an exam date I wanted. She told my class that if we wanted she had another class in 2 weeks and if we wanted to we could attend, my original class had 40 students and only 2 of us decided to use the opportunity she gave us. I learned so much from that 2nd class and it ended 6/11/09 and I decided to test 6/12/09 I was the first from my graduating class. The reason being our teacher told us that if you test 30 days after graduation you have a higher chance of passing and after 60 days it starts to decline (her words just saying what she did).

Fastforward today and after not sleeping for 2 days i did the PV "treat" and this morning at 9:30 am found out that my 77 questions were good enough to pass :yeah: I am happy because I am the first in my family tograduate college, not only with a BSN but as an RN now:nurse:. If I can be of hope to anyone know that no matter where you are from (I am from a small island, trained in the states) you can do anything you put your mind to.

Thank for the post... I took the Kaplan review as well and scored 70% on the readiness test. However the Qtrainers I'm getting 50-60% so after seeing your grades I have hope!

I think the biggest thing is doing a lot of questions, this helps you to see where you are weak and after reading the rationales it gives you insight into what went wrong. Do you have a date schedule (you don't have to say when:) Do the Qtrainers and QBANK and I watched the videos for the areas I had weakness. Good luck:D

My test date is on the 26th June (next week already! yikes!) :chair: My test date was supposed to be 25th June but one of my friends took the test the other day and spent 6 hours on 265 questions. It really freaked me out so I postponed it. Anyway, you are absolutely right about taking as many questions as possible. I find also that studying at the Kaplan center gave me better scores. I was scoring in the 60%'s yesterday. I think studying at home has a lot of distractions so it is a good idea to study at the center where it's quiet. At home, I just stop, get snacks, log on to email or facebook, etc etc. So thank you for the advice. Best of luck on your nursing career. Take care!

Very inspiring. I take nclex in a week and i am very nervous. I was worried about my scored in kaplan being in the same range as yours... but there is hope!!! yay!!!! now to pass mine!

LVAD,

I am also going through Kaplan... Just finished my Qtrainer #3 with a 53! My qbanks have averaged between 50-70. I am definitely getting anxious...my test is on January 20th and i'm dreading it!

Did you use any other resource besides Kaplan? Or did you only go over questions and rationales? Also, how long did you study for? Im wondering if I started studying too early..

Thanks so much and congrats! Im feeling a bit better after reading your post!

RN2Be I think your test scores are great for Kaplan. I really don't believe you can study too soon. I know with Kaplan from my experience if you do EVERY & I mean EVERYTHING they tell you to do you will pass. Others that did not pass that I know personally did not complete all of the QBANK or Qtrainers. I did 100% of it even when there were days I did not want to.

I only used Kaplan and studied everday for 1 month & I followed the outline Kaplan gives you (2 weeks before your test) I did no more than 150 questions a day. I think it depends on how you study because some swear by Kaplan others hate it..for me it was the ONLY thing that helped me. Good luck and any questions let me know

Well, I took about two days off for the New Year....decided to get back to it again today. Did you find that there was a lot of content that you just didn't know? What I have been doing is going through all the qbanks and writing down the rationales...time consuming, yes...but its helping a lot stick!

Im also going through the basics on Saunders such as endocrine and GI disorders that I havent looked at it in awhile, ABGs, Labs, etc.

I think starting next week i'll start doing the 150 questions a day...right now i'm averaging 2 qbanks a day...and have 3 more qtrainers to go!

*keeping fingers crossed*
