First I have to thank God and members of this website. There were days when i felt so sad and when I did so bad on my NLN diagnostic test Silverdragon102 reminded me that it was just a number and I should continue to study until the day of my exam. so if this helps anyone here is what I did:
I graduated May 9th of this year and from what other nurses told me icluding my preceptor i should pay the money for Kaplan. i found out that the hospital I will be working decided that this year they would not be paying for Kaplan so i asked my mom to give me the $400+ she did and I was on my way.
I took a week off after graduation because my family was here but once they left I got down to business, I studied everyday maybe because I do not have kids but my husband was supportive and he gave me my space (God bless him). I started using Kaplans QBANK before the class started to get a handle on things and I did Qtrainer 1, 2 & 3 also before class. There were days when i felt like giving up but knew that my student loans were arriving soon. For those wondering about my Kaplan scores here are they:
Diagnostic 53
Qtrainer 1...57%
Qtrainer 2...49%
Qtrainer 3...52%
Qtrainer 4...57%
Qtrainer 5...49%
Qtrainer 6...62%
Qtrainer 7...61%
Readiness Test 73%
QBANK average 60% ( I did 100% of it)
I went to my Kaplan class everyday even when people were annoying me but i learned from everyone. The teacher was great and when my class ended two weeks ago I was ready, however I could not get an exam date I wanted. She told my class that if we wanted she had another class in 2 weeks and if we wanted to we could attend, my original class had 40 students and only 2 of us decided to use the opportunity she gave us. I learned so much from that 2nd class and it ended 6/11/09 and I decided to test 6/12/09 I was the first from my graduating class. The reason being our teacher told us that if you test 30 days after graduation you have a higher chance of passing and after 60 days it starts to decline (her words just saying what she did).
Fastforward today and after not sleeping for 2 days i did the PV "treat" and this morning at 9:30 am found out that my 77 questions were good enough to pass I am happy because I am the first in my family tograduate college, not only with a BSN but as an RN now:nurse:. If I can be of hope to anyone know that no matter where you are from (I am from a small island, trained in the states) you can do anything you put your mind to.
