Pasadena City College RN Program Spring 2019

Published

Is anyone planning on applying for the Spring 2019 semester (due October 1-31)? The new applications are up!

Hopefully we all will be celebrating an acceptance in the next few months. Good luck to all!

Crossing my fingers :) I applied to PCC's ADN program!

I applied to the ADN program. Did they ask for you to give them a response by a certain date??

I keep checking my email and my spam lol. I seriously cannot believe how fast that was. (I applied to a school back in Aug and they still have not sent out acceptance letters yet).

I also got an acceptance today for the ADN program. We have to respond back by this Thursday. I assume they are sending acceptances in waves, so don't be too down that you haven't gotten an acceptance yet. I knew someone who got accepted 2 weeks before classes started for spring last year; she was a CNA so she already had all of her vaccines and medical records ready to go.

I already invested a lot of time and money for the LACC ADN program, so I think I might decline PCC. I really wish PCC would have reached out a few weeks earlier.

I also got an email for acceptance. They want the intent form by Nov 29. I also got into LA County College of Nursing and Allied Health. Does anyone have any advice for choosing between PCC for LACONAH?

@raqvi, I've heard that LACONAH has the best clinical experiences but that's the extent of my knowledge.

Wow! Congrats everyone! Around what time did everyone get their emails? I know it's prob not important but I'm wondering if everyone got one about the same time or not to see if this is the first wave of acceptances...

@raqvi, I've heard that LACONAH has the best clinical experiences but that's the extent of my knowledge.

@Bosoxgirl3358, that's all I've heard too. What worries me about LACONAH is that they have a 25.9% attrition rate and 67.9% graduation rate. Versus PCC which has a 9.4% attrition rate and 86.8% graduation rate.

But I looked at the PCC Fall 2018 allnurses thread and someone who graduated from the program in 2017 said

Best of luck to all of you in your nursing aspirations - but if you do NOT get into PCC it may be a blessing. The program is essentially self taught, or taught largely via ATI software. Many PCC grads white knuckle it through 3rd and 4th semester. The upper semester teaching is inconsistent and not helpful. This is where the lectures really start to become less and less useful and reading multiple textbooks, watching youtube videos, and practicing at home really leads.

I have head so many better things about LACC, the Cal State Programs, and others.

You will survive no matter where you end up, but this place is not the shining institution that it used to be. Lots of in-fighting and rivalries between professors. No regular director (interim director now for several years), lost the person who design and ran the SIM lab to retirement and no good replacement yet (it's been 2 years). Glitchy laptops for testing. Inconsistent and insecure wifi on campus. Only 1 working sink (out of 7) in one of the main bathrooms. Do I need to go on? Students are constantly debating the ethics of reporting the school versus losing all the work they have put into the program thus far if the board takes the credentials away. It's not pretty.

I'm currently in the program and I can confirm that Urbanhound is speaking the truth. My only advice is to ask the administration as many questions as possible when finding out more about the program. I would avoid PCC if you despise computerized testing because ALL your quizzes and exams will be on the desktops/laptops. Also, google ATI if you don't already know what it is. PCC is one of the only community college programs in LA county to use this resource. You are expected to teach yourself the ATI material then take a comprehensive national exam at the end of the course which reflects on your course grade.

@raqvi, do you know how many students are accepted to LACONAH each semester? I am going to apply for the fall since (I have to retake physiology for recency) and as I tallied my points, I had over 90 for that program and had far fewer for PCC.

It appears to me that the points are given more freely during LACONAH's application process and that could account for the high attrition and low graduation rates. I hope that makes sense, lol.

If you got into both, you will probably succeed at either one, IMO.

The PCC reviews are disconcerting for sure.

@Bosoxgirl3358, Sorry I have no idea how many students LACONAH accepts each semester. I had 89 points for LACONAH and I believe their cut off was about 80-82? Yeah I can see what you mean about the generous point distribution at LACONAH lol

And thank you!

Do anyone hear anything today? Nothing here.

I would love to congratulate for those who were accepted today. Sadly I didn't hear back from them yet. Do you guys mind sharing your total overall points?

Nothing here either. Maybe they'll send in the next wave of acceptances after the intent forms are submitted November 29th to see how many people plan to attend PCC?
