Pasadena City College RN program

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi,

I've heard that it's not recommended to work while enrolled as a student in an RN program. I'm applying for the Spring Semester at PCC and while I do intend to leave my current employer should I be accepted, I was wondering if there were people who made the attempt to work part-time or possibly in the summer.

Any opinions?

Thanks!

Vikont, Yeah I called as well :) so I'll be calling next week to try and Get in. I want to try and get everything done that i can this week so the next couple of weeks I will just worry about the health stuff! Are any of you guys planning on working?? I don't want to lose my job so I think I'll just work per diem during the night shift! I look forward to spending the next two years with everyone! I also applied to about 8 schools and got into 4 so apply anywhere and everywhere. And although Pcc takes lottery and a lot of schools in the LA area.. Citrus and RCC(kinda far) go base on merit so of to have good grades I would def apply to them.

I plan on continuing to work my part-time CNA job. Don't really have a choice and I did it all throughout my LVN program that was 5 days a week for quite a bit of the program. Worked every single weekend. It's hard, but it's doable if you have to.

Vikont, I still did go to PCC for my flu shot though. No one else has them anymore.
CVS pharmacy has.

Depends which CVS you go to. The ones in my area don't. It's very case by case. My hospital doesn't have it, my doctor doesn't, and neither did Target, Rite-Aid, Costco, or Sam's Club. This was multiple stores in my area. For the record, PCC's pricing on it was cheaper than what most stores like these normally charge anyhow. Free if you're a current student, only $13 to cover the health fee for your first visit if you're not a current student.

Did you, guys, have 2 TB tests with interval of 6-7 weeks (or 7 days?) between them?

I am not sure that I understood it..the difference of TB test for medical workers.

It's called a two step TB. This is correct and what you.need

I'm soooo excited, I got accepted to the PCC 2012 fall RN cohort!!!! I didn't make the orientation, can someone please shed some light as to what was discussed. FYI..I've been applying since 2009 and finally got in....Don't loose hope:)

peekabust,

we just went over all the things we need to do before starting the program. Did you pick up the acceptance packet? All the info is basically in there (uniform ordering, health clearance, book list, live scan, insurance, etc).

Hi stelon,

Only 2 more semesters, you must be so excited! Good luck and I wish you the best :-)

You mentioned you had friends that completed the RN program at PCC. Would you mind sharing what they're up to now and if it was difficult for them finding jobs? Thanks!

Hi willowita :-)

Thanks for replying! These are my stats: Anatomy-B, Physiology-A, Microbiology-A, English-A, and the other classes like Nutrition and Psych are a mix of A's and B's. I actually did not apply to any other schools (aah I know!). After talking to one of the nursing counselors I was told I had a really good chance of getting in, so I didn't bother applying anywhere else. What other schools do you recommend applying to for the next time around? Also, you mentioned you've been saving up money so you don't have to work while in the program, very smart of you ;-) Do you know about how much the 2 year RN program at PCC costs?

Hi peekabust,

Congrats on finally being accepted!! :w00t:

I was wondering if you applied to any other schools or were you holding out for PCC's RN program? Also, if you don't mind sharing, what are your stats? Thanks!
