Pasadena City College RN program

Published

Hi,

I've heard that it's not recommended to work while enrolled as a student in an RN program. I'm applying for the Spring Semester at PCC and while I do intend to leave my current employer should I be accepted, I was wondering if there were people who made the attempt to work part-time or possibly in the summer.

Any opinions?

Thanks!

Oh shoot. I just saw all this right now and it's 9 tonight.. I'll e-mail them tomorrow. I dropped my intent form off in person today and completely forgot to ask about them receiving my TEAS. Eeeeeek I'm excited!!

What did everyone think of orientation?

I was impressed. It seems like they put a lot of effort and resources into helping students.

I wish I could have gone to the career-ladder orientation. Thankfully, I have 2 friends who graduated PCC's program and they've been answering all of my questions. It seems like a good program and I'm excited to start, especially since I finished the acceptance packet (the physical/blood work, livescan, NSO insurance, etc). Just need to hem my pants and sew my patches on and I'll be good to go. :)

Stelon,

How long did it take you to get all the stuff in the acceptance packet done? I was a bit concerned about the timeline for the livescan and NSO insurance. Was it fast?

Willowita,I already received my insurance via e-mail I ordered it yesterday lol and the livescan she be done as soon as possible. Are you going to go to the health services for ur blood work and everything?

atarkehin, that's good to hear that the insurance doesn't take long.

I was gonna go to my doctor for the health clearance but they kinda freaked me out yesterday! Going to the PCC health services sounds like less of a hassle so it gets done right. But I don't live by Pasadena so going over there for 4-5 visits might not work with my schedule. I'll just have to bug my doctor and make sure she fills out the form correctly.

hmm. im in the same situation! but she scared me so i think i will stick with the health services.

Hi atarkehin, willowita and stelon

Congrats on your acceptance!:yeah: I was wondering if you were all accepted to the RN or LVN to RN program? Also, if you wouldn't mind could you please share your stats? I applied to the RN program but wasn't accepted this time around:(

Thanks!

I was accepted to the generic RN program. I have a 4.0 in prereqs (no repeats or W's) and an 89% TEAS.

But because the college uses the chancellor formula, it's not necessary to get straight A's. As long as you make their minimum cut score, you're thrown into a lottery. Sorry you didn't get chosen this time around but reapply. What are your stats?

Did you apply to other schools? You really do increase your chances with the more schools you apply. I applied to 7, got into 4.

hmm. im in the same situation! but she scared me so i think i will stick with the health services.

The health services don't work this week. They will be back to work from June 25th.

I tried to do blood work yesterday..and couldn't.

I got into the career-ladder option. Only 2 semesters left for me. :) As for the acceptance packet stuff--got my NSO insurance about 24 hours after filling out their forms and sending payment. Livescan was done the same day I went to the office at the CEC campus. You're supposed to bring three copies of the completed form and they keep one to send to the school and give you back two, one to keep and one for the packet to turn in.

It took me 2 weeks start to finish to get my physical completely done and done right. I have Kaiser insurance and it was a huge headache getting the titer results right. I had to tell them multiple times that quantitative results are required and that a simple "immune/non-immune" wasn't accepted by my school. They also didn't draw my Hep B the first time so it took 2 lab visits, plus another to drop off a copy of the physical form (we had a LOT of confusion over it because PCC is so specific, they wanted to see it), and another 2 trips for the actual physical because my Dr. forgot to ask them for exact results on my Hep B. Not to mention my immunization record has gone missing since the last time I needed it. Fortunately, my high school still had it on file and I was able to get it that way. It was a huge hassle and by the time I was done I almost wished I'd just used the PCC health services. *Note it also only took 2 weeks because PCC was willing to count my work tb test from March as my step 1, so I only needed to get the second one done*

I got Bs in anat and phys and an A in micro. A 92% on my TEAS, but they don't look at that. My other pre-reqs are a mix of As and Bs. But since PCC uses the Chancellor's Formula, it doesn't much matter as long as you have good enough grades to meet the formula's cut score.

Edited to add that physical form made me feel like the biggest pain in the ass patient ever. I was on the phone with my doctor's office too many times to count.

Vikont, PCC also requires you have an appointment for the bloodwork. They won't accept walk-ins. I originally had made appointments with them when Kaiser originally told me they couldn't get me in until July 17! I still did go to PCC for my flu shot though. No one else has them anymore.
