Hi,
I've heard that it's not recommended to work while enrolled as a student in an RN program. I'm applying for the Spring Semester at PCC and while I do intend to leave my current employer should I be accepted, I was wondering if there were people who made the attempt to work part-time or possibly in the summer.
Any opinions?
Thanks!
Yeah, I finally made up my mind and am choosing PCC. I live a bit far right now but moving closer will also bring me closer to my family that lives in Glendale. So it was the right fit for me.
I'm sure you'll get the email soon since there are time sensitive things that need to be done in less than a week! And just to throw it out there, the mandatory orientation is June 18th. So we'll be moving through this pretty fast.
Good for you!! It's pretty far for me too.. But I'm willing to make the drive! I'm sure several students will be commuting So as we get to know each other we can carpool. I know there is a lot to do! I went to an orientation today at citrus and there was so much stuff! But I was very impressed with their staff and their program is so new!But congrats on getting the email.. I will be waiting with my phone glued to my hand :)
Well, I heard this argument already :-)It has the typical logical fallacy - Appeal to Pity.
Congratulations to everybody who was accepted!
I really like the people who work in the nursing department of PCC.
Call it what you may, but on PCC's and most other nursing program applications, there's a list of special circumstances in which one marks off and gains an extra point or so toward their cut score. It's called special circumstances, not appeal to pity. You say you have a job and children so i'm sure you checked off at least one of the boxes.
They have this because not everyone has the same life circumstance, and the college acknowledges this. Some people have infants and a couple other small children, plus many other obstacles in their way. They stay up til 3am studying and then head off to work then school, I've even met a few who were in abusive relationships going to school so they can get away. So getting the grade is just that much more of a challenge than someone who can go to school and study all day with no worries etc.
Maybe a couple people took it personally because you're refering to this as an appeal to pity when in all reality it's just life. As future nurses, our title consists of showing compassion, witholding judgement, as well as to teach and inform, which includes toward each other not just our patients! I just wanted to inform you of this information and remind you of the special circumstance area of the application. It's a lottery for a reason, there's a special circumstance section for a reason. Because it's FAIR and so EVERYONE who has tried their best has a chance. I know this lottery system and waiting game is EXTREMELY frustrating for all of us! The best thing we can do is to be here for each other and support each other and have compassion for one another!
Wow, so some of you haven't received emails yet? According to the email I received, you have to send teas scores by june 12 (Tuesday) or take the exam on june 19. We also have to submit a form that was attached to the email by june 13 3pm to accept the offer. Mandatory orientation is june 18.
I'm not sure if any of these dates apply if you did not receive the email. But it's a good idea to call them on Monday to see what is going on.
