Pasadena City College LVN program 2018

Published

Hi all! I wanted to start this thread to see who has applied or will apply to the LVN program at PCC for fall of 2018. I already submitted my application and if anyone has tried in the past or is already in the program please feel free to offer advice! Thank you! GOOD LUCK!

I wish they had this information for us now especially because of work but I know that they cant place us into clinical until we have cleared our background check and our health clearance. :/

Has anyone found out any more information about the clinical scrubs? Do they have to be the ones from dove apparel?

I have gathered most of my things that I have been able to. I ordered the LVN kit, the background check, the NSO insurance, the medical document manager, I got my school scrubs, nursing shoes, I have an appointment on tuesday at the pcc health center for the health clearance, I wanted to try to get everything cleared as soon as I am able to. I just haven't ordered the clinical scrubs, they're so pricey.

I just want to let you guys know that for the health clearance as far as the 2-step TB test if you have gotten one in the last year and it was negative then you only need one more and all you need is the proof. Also I looked into the books we might need through the book store and it seems like so many... but I'm waiting to receive the book list before I order anything.

I am also waiting for the book list and almost have everything on the list except school srubs and the white shoes. Have you bought yours yet? If so where did you get them?

I did, I bought my school scrubs (burgundy) at a place called uniform kingdom. I bought my shoes on amazon because I was struggling to find my size since I have a small shoe size. Only thing I have not bought is my clinical scrubs ( white). Have you ordered them?

Oh, I just need the shoes. But the ones they want are specific. I am afraid to order online because I am sometimes a different size just depends on the shoes. Yes I did order the dove scrubs well just bought one it was so expensive I couldnt get the second one.

How much did your scrubs cost their?

So has anyone gotten the clearance to register?

My background check cleared last Wed. and I still haven't received an email.

I think Im going to email the school about the white scrubs, maybe more of us should as well. Its way too pricey and the suggest to buy 2 pairs thats like $120.

Nope not yet and I really need to because of work schedule as I'm sure many of you do too.

Regarding the white scrubs I asked a friend of mine that is finishing the program now and he said that they tend not to care after the first few weeks so still not sure if that means that the white dove appears scrubs are mandatory or not.

It's way too much money I can't afford that brand so I agree we should say something about it.

I spent $30 for the set of scrubs butI just found out about this store that is called comfort wear outlet and I hear that they sell scrub sets for $15 or $16 so I might have to check it out. I ended up ordering my white scrubs but I only ordered one for now and maybe then I can try to find a cheaper lookalike set.

Also I received my clearance to register for the classes. I am now enrolled in the 4 courses that we are supposed to be taking. They are scheduled to take place on Monday+ Wednesday. The only thing I don't know of is the days for clinicals. I called and left a voicemail hopefully I get a call back tomorrow. Ill keep you guys updated on any information that I can get.

Also for the CPR card, how do you know which course from the american heart association is the right one? I only have my BLS CPR card and I am having trouble getting information on that.

I think the BLS is the one you need, that's the one I have and I am just sending that one in.

Did anyone get information on the ATI BOOKS?

I haven't received anything about the ATI books, i did look up our course textbooks through the bookstore. Are you guys buying or renting?

Yeah I did that as well.

I will be renting my books off of amazon prime, it is waaaaaaay cheaper. Most books will be $20-$25 each to rent for the semester, and If you rent at school some go up to $80.The only thing I will be buying brand new is the pharmacology student workbook.

Do you guys know what the Kit has?

We don't even really know what supplies we need too buy in addition for clinicals.

And what supplies are you guys buying? I keep looking up videos on Youtube about supplies that are useful for nursing school and it is a little overwhelming. Lol!
