Pasadena City College ADN Program

Published

Hey, guys.

I'm planning on applying for the ADN program for Fall 2019. I went to the PCC nursing website and it states that students are required to take physical activity (2 units). I took a physical activity class which was only a 1 unit class. Do I need to take another activity class? Is it really required? Please help!

I’d email the counseling department. They have some conflicting information (at least on the LVN-RN Bridge program). I’m applying this month and I don’t have any Physical Activity unita but hoping it’ll be pretty easy to squeeze those in somewhere.

Yes, you need two physical activity classes, each are worth 1 unit each.

I have contacted the nursing department and they told me I need to take another physical activity class. Thanks for the replies, you guys! ?

Applications are due Feb. 28. Does anyone know what the points cut off are, or is it determined once all the applications are in?

i haven’t taken Speech yet so I lose 5 points right there ... trying to find it online now

The app window is April 1-30...maybe it’s different for LVNs?

Is anyone here planning on getting any certifications before nursing school? I’m a phlebotomist, but was also thinking I’d certify for ecg/ekg or pharmacy tech to familiarize with other parts of the field that are relevant. Maybe an ACLS cert as well.

Does anyone know if nurses (bsn/msn) should know billing codes? I know nurses/drs can bill for diff things and before/after makes a diff depending on insurance plans.

I just want to be as well rounded as possible to hopefully score a student nursing gig. I’d like to specialize and earn an MSN as well. Maybe a dr in nursing to become a nurse anesthetist. I’m in my mid 30s so I suppose I don’t have much time to acrue and pay off debt so we’ll see.

This wait is killing me. I applied to several schools.

Does anyone know if Pasadena College has a recency policy for its core science pre-requisites?

I took all pre-requisites about 8 years ago and had to re-take them again for certain schools. I've completed all but Physio, which I am taking now and will be done June 2nd.

On Pasadena's nursing program website, it says "We highly recommend that basic science courses: chemistry, microbiology, anatomy, and physiology are completed within the past five years with a grade of “C” or higher"...

However, it doesn't say REQUIRED to be within the past 5 years so I was wondering if anyone knows if I could use my Physio grade from the past to apply for this fall since I won't have my current Physio grade until after the application window.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

You should call and ask...but I do know they go by a point system and a bunch of people have all their pre reqs done within 5 years with 4.0, medical licenses and other degrees, etc. I think you should apply anyway as you never know!!

I applied with what I feel is an average application and feel I won’t get in compared to what everyone else says they have.

My stats:

79% on TEAS

3.6 gpa pre reqs

phlebotomy license (which I don’t know if it will even count)

All other general Ed done with previous AA

Anyone have feedback?

How many points does everyone have for this application? I’m wondering if it’s even worth applying...

I will have 78 but I’m pretty sure that’s too low for a spot. It’s more than I had for the Spring application period and I was an alternate. But maybe the fact that Chem is a requirement now will lower the cutoff? Who knows!

Mine is looking like 70-75 points depending on if my "Critical Thinking" class will be accepted or not. I will have to go to the counseling office for them to check for me.

What about everyone else...?

It is highly recommended, but there is no recency requirement. Classes don't expire. I had micro class back in 2013 and I still got accepted into the RN program.

I have 73 points if they accept my phlebotomy license. The ladies up front were uncertain if the underwriters would accept it. So I suppose I’m on the lower end of the point scale. Crappers.

I think 75-78 points is high so you guys might have a good chance of getting in!
