part-time nursing jobs

hello.. does anyone here know of ANY phil. hospital that offers part-time jobs for staff nurses? if yes, what details do u know (schedule, load, etc.)?

Doubt that you will find any offering that unless you have significant work experience as you would need to be trained by them. Many here are having problems even finding full-time work, and that is any hospital's preference at the very least. When you have more nurses now than positions, you will need to be available for what they want, not what is easier for you to do.

Yeah and they keep on telling in the papers that there is a nursing shortage in the Philippines...:yeah:Where's the shortage?:lol_hitti

How can they claim shortage when there is no hiring? Most hospitals are either reluctant to hire nurses(regular) or accept volunteers hence nurses(employed or volunteer) working in hospitals are the ones who suffer(inhumane nurse-patient ratios and the "superhuman/can-do-it-all" view of nurses by the hospital admin, hospital admin make a lame excuse of saying it's "cost-cutting"). Here in Bacolod for example, they usually accept volunteer nurses by batch(every 3 months), and that is really voluntary work(all the risks and load without pay). There is a shortage of personnel but most hospitals are not hiring nurses(with pay that is).

The problem is with those who own the hospitals or the top-management. Let see, though many say that the Philippine healthcare system is bleeding maybe the Philippine healthcare system has a lot of blood in it(let's see how far it would go if they keep on making this cost-cutting excuse).

And unless the issues on salary, benefits and nurse-patient ratio are addressed, I believe the figures of those who'd want to move out(of the country)will continue to multiply exponentially in huge numbers never before seen in Philippine history.

Its difficult to find even a small clinic here in Metro Manila offering part-time work. Imagine how many registered nurses and newly grads are currently stuck here in the PH due to the current visa issue. You are not alone.

in my opinion, our country is more than willing to let go of those skilled workers (nurses, teachers, etc). migrate to other countries since there is no abundant jobs for everyone despite the effort of this government.

the government isn't doing anything about it as far as i know.. she's actually focused on the Call Center Industry since this is the one bringing in much of the jobs for newly grads and OSY's here.. she's just after a colorful SONA with regards to the economy.. blech!!

That is why we are expecting to see a mandatory internship put back in place, or even two years of government service required before they will release your documents so that you can work overseas. The Philippines has always been known for producing more nurses that they needed so that that they would work overseas and send money home to their relatives. And this was when the programs were actually excellent. Now many have tried to jump onto the bandwagon, more as a means to get to the US, not that they ever wished to be an RN. And they are losing too many physicians and dentists as nurses to other countries. A few years ago when the second courser programs started, there was one in Manila that had 200 graduates from the program; 150 were dentists and physicians.

That is what is going to cause the most issue with the healthcare in your country, and that was just one program for one graduation date. Many, many programs have sprung up since then.

sometimes i wonder, with all the nurses who graduate and are newly registered each year (thousands and thousands of them), where are these people? i don't exactly see them flocking to hospitals to work. makes me think about what other industry they're filling up with their manpower. with the current state of events (and hospital working conditions here in our country), the BPO industry, perhaps. can't blame them.. in fact, no matter what industry they choose, i definitely can't blame them...

(that was bad! i sounded like a traitor to my own profession... i'm not, actually. u do catch my drift without my having to explain, right?) ;)

There are so many nurses applying for work in hospitals here in the Philippines. Everyone wants to get the needed hospital experience to build on skills.

The problem is, there are no vacancies.

well, if it's not nursing related, that is so easy. jobs abound, my friend. call center agent, ESL instructor, medical transcriptionist, CI...etc.
