part-time nursing jobs
i agree. if the exodus of nurses is such an issue for them, i don't see why they won't take steps to remedy it.

is dialysis less stressful than med surg
yup, it definitely is. im only basing my answer on what i've observed in my country, though. dialysis is an entirely different specialty area, but mainly it revolves only around dialysis, and that's it. you prepare the machine, hook 'em up, prime, receive the patient, initiate dialysis, monitor, terminate dialysis, observe the patient, clean up,and you're done. of course, it takes skill to be a good renal therapist, but compared to the hustle and bustle of the med-surg floor, it definitely is less stressful in dialysis. also, nurse:patient ratio is 1:1. good luck.

Yelled at by a doctor for the first time....
when i worked in a hospital, i didnt feel like a servant sometimes.. i felt like a servant always! some doctors treat nurses well, but some just have the god complex. its very, very frustrating... sometimes i even go, "i didnt study and pay for years of college just to have a job where other people will have the liberty of yelling at me (here, it is accepted.. expected, even)..where i try to help save lives and get snapped at in return..where what i paid for in tuition will never be compensated by wat i earn (in our country, anyway)"...i could go on and on actually, but its depressing.. and sometimes, i also go.... i have to try to understand that doctors are under an enormous amount of stress, so perhaps this is just displacement..and i shouldn't complain about my job, bcoz how it is now is how its supposed to be.. but i couldn't reconcile those two opposing thoughts. after a short stint in the hospital, i stopped. to take a breather, recharge my spirits..and be a better nurse when i work as one again.

Tips On Taking The Board Exams
1. test yourself constantly so your mind will be used to the way the test questions are asked. 2. organize your materials. decide which reviewers to use and stick to them. 3. strategize. review centers often give their own strategies and techniques on how you can answer questions. 4. trust yourself. you probably know more than you think you do. 5. pray. really, really pray. good luck!

Hiring Hospitals Bulletin!
in cebu, hospitals are constntly hiring coz the turnover rate of nurses is pretty fast.. from what i've observed, hospitals accept a batch of new nurse applicants every two to three months (average). i dont know of any hospitals in the city that accept volunteers, though.. but there are training courses. i know vsmmc conducts OR trainings for non-employees for 2-3 months.

what books should i read for local board exam?
i used only 2 books: DOH and carl balita's reviewer thingie (a big help for me, really - easy to read and recall). and i had a compilation of test questions. i used the review center's lecture notes for the rest. took the board once and thankfully passed. dont stop testing yourself regularly. it trains the way your mind answers different questions.

Agencies hiring nurses without experience
that's wat im looking for, too. here's another thing. usually, hospitals here in phils only release certificates of employment if you have worked with them for at least 2 years. are there any agencies that accept nurses without these certificates? bcoz not all of us actually stay that long in hospitals, given the working condition here..
