Parkland SICU Residency

Published

Parkland SICU Residency opened on April 29, 2014!!!

Good luck to all! SICU is a great unit and I spent many, happy years there!!

Thanks for the advice! I've directly contacted the recruiter with my concerns... hopefully we will be able to figure something out! I'll keep everyone up-to-date, especially for other future out of state applicants looking to apply!

I live out of state as well. Unfortunately for the ER residency I requested a phone interview because the I had clinical days around every interview day and I just couldn't make it to Dallas on short notice like that. I'm pretty sure that contributed to me being passed over so if you really want the opportunity to materialize, I'd suggest flying in.

Well, after a long and thoughtful email to recruiter requesting a webcam interview due to being an out-of-state applicant coupled with the short time frame and approaching holiday weekend.... I got a disconnected and SHORT email saying "All interviews will be conducted onsite. Sorry." from the recruiter.

Wish they offered advance notice for the interviews. Oh well!

mernah, ala87, they will have other residencies coming up in the fall and february. Remember, we are moving into the new hospital starting next year with a bigger ER with approximately 96 exam rooms, 10 trauma rooms and 10 prisoner treatment rooms. The SICU will have 36 beds and MICU will have 36 beds. The Neonatal ICU will have 96! Also, remember, Parkland just went to 3 year contracts just last year (2013). Prior to that, it was 2 years and some of those will be coming up, that's right, this FALL. In other words, more beds equals more jobs for nurses!

One of the things i would recommend is to look back at the posts from previous years at the various residencies. For instance, for the february 2014 ER residency, they started interviewing in late November, early December. I know it doesn't help this time but don't give up on this. Parkland is one of the most challenging and fulfilling location you can be at in the country. With this experience, there will be NOTHING you will face in your career that you can handle.

and i was definitely an "out of state" applicant. I came from Afghanistan for my interview and had plane issues in Dubai. I fought to get a new flight on Emirates (non stop to Dallas is 16 hours!) and arrived approximately 3 hours before my interview. That was one thing they told me, I was persistent and never gave up (showed them how much i wanted this job). Don't give up guys, if you got to the interview portion, you have something they saw in that resume they liked. Keep trying!!

Agreed. I just couldn't make it happen because of my clinical schedule I had already committed to for that week. They also gave us less than four days to get there. Not ideal. But I thanked everyone profusely for the opportunity etc. I plan on flying down this time if they decide to offer an interview. Fingers crossed. I don't plan on giving up but I do have two boys to feed so I'm hesitant to leave IL without a job lined up.

Hang in there mernah. I have a friend that is interviewing that says it is Wednesday to Friday next week. You are ready to get this. If it doesn't work out this time, don't give up, fall and February is next. Starting pay is $24.52 per hour along with diffs when get to unit for nights/weekend. You move to RN I after completion of the residency which is around $28 per hour. I hope to see you there in July at new employee orientation. Your resume got you to an interview with ER last time, it will get you there next time! Take care of those two little guys!

Congrats to those who have landed an interview and best of luck! And for those who didn't, as TWU80 said persistence is key!
