Parkland Critical Care Nurse Residency Sept 2012

Published

Hi all,

I'm somewhat new to this forum. I applied to Parkland's MICU and SICU residency. I've already received the email saying my apps were forwarded to the hiring manager. I'm looking for any info on what the hiring process is like, far as, how long after receiving the email did you get an interview and also any info on how the residency works. My dream is either to get into the ED or one of the critical care areas. I know this would be a great opportunity to be employed at a Level I trauma center. Any advice, tips, connections and info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You may have just gotten some random mass email like me? Or did you get a phone call?

If you applied to more than one posting then you will get a denial for the other postings. Don't worry too much about it.

I think they've already interviewed and made offers for L&D already well at least from some of the previous posts that's what was said

I'm starting to think that I dreamed up the phone call friday offering me a spot . I called my recruiter today and emailed her asking her what the next steps are. I would also like to know what kind of schedule we will have... I have not heard back from her yet though. :( I was experiencing tunnel vision when she called, so I don't remember much after we hung up. :)

Maybe I just misunderstood in the interview about how the residency works. I understood it that as long as you do what is expected, and pass the classroom portion along with the clinical portion, the contract is offered. So it seems now we wait for further instruction.

Are any of the ED residents going to prepare? If so, how? what reading material? I thought I could brush up on commonly seen issues seen in the ED, and being the nerd that I am, I also bought a book specifically for Emergency Nursing. I just want to start already.

Far as the next steps I was told that I would hear back from her to do my drug screen and tb testing when the manager got back to her with my paperwork. I've heard different things about the residency but that was from people waiting to get in. I haven't personally talked to anyone who has been through the ED residency. Far as preparing for it haven't really started that phase yet I'm still in shocked that I got offered a spot

No it was an SICU denial

Yes I was told about the drugs test etc... have you heard anything back yet though?

Thanks babigrl, I'm so thankful I found this thread. All this waiting is a bit nerve wracking. I hope I hear back tomorrow.

In the earlier threads, someone was saying about the mass emails. It's funny because Parkland called me a little past noon with an offer, however I received an email later that evening addressing "application under review" ... "your application has been sent to the hiring manager for further review and consideration". Question??? what is there to consider if they offered me a position already?!? I am wondering if there is some kind of glitch in their system.

Lol. I'm not sure. I get those mass emails around 10p. I know I keep getting the under review email for SICU and MICU but they've already interviewed and hired for those spots I think the system continues to send the same email until the recruiter updates your status I'm assuming lol

Yeah Ive dealt with parklands hiring system for over a year now and there is little merit to those automated emails, especially if you've heard otherwise from a recruiter. I've gotten emails saying I was no longer being considered when I hadn't yet interviewed (and was confirmed an interview spot), and an email saying I was still under consideration after the job had been filled (months later). Don't worry about it, just try and speak directly to HR.

yup, around 10 in the evening, my phone starts to blow up with emails from Parkland, lol. I fear they are going to change their mind about my offer, and will just send me another puzzling email. I'm paranoid with a pinch of anxious, don't know if you can tell, lol. I want paperwork so that it is documented that I will soon have a j-o-b. :)

When did you get your offer??
