Hi all,
I'm somewhat new to this forum. I applied to Parkland's MICU and SICU residency. I've already received the email saying my apps were forwarded to the hiring manager. I'm looking for any info on what the hiring process is like, far as, how long after receiving the email did you get an interview and also any info on how the residency works. My dream is either to get into the ED or one of the critical care areas. I know this would be a great opportunity to be employed at a Level I trauma center. Any advice, tips, connections and info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Okay, so I was told in my interview that the contract just turned from 2 to 3 years (after 14-16 week residency). I have a classmate who interviewed a month ago in ICU and was told that the contract was 3 years, but when she got to HR the contract she signed was 2 years. So confused..... I will call HR tomorrow after I take my NCLEX (yes, all this and NCLEX at 8am!). I will let y'all know in case anyone is interested!
Hey everyone! I have been lurking on this post and finally decided I should contribute. First I thought I should do a quick introduction. I grew up here in Dallas, but went to school in Chicago. I earned my BSN this May and passed my NCLEX in July. That being said these past few months have been filled with job applications sprinkled with hopes and prayers. In mid-July I applied for the nurse residency in L&D and was pleasantly surprised to receive a call for an interview on August 31. I was thrilled as this was the first hospital to even respond in any sort of positive way to all my applications. I scheduled my interview for Monday August 6. At the end of my interview (which I felt went well) I was told they should make their decision in 2 weeks. 2 weeks came and went. I had my phone by me constantly hoping for a call. NOTHING. I started googling and found this board. It gave me some hope, Parkland is slow! But when offers started rolling in and even rejections for L&D I started to loose hope. I called my recruiter and left her messages. Finally on Saturday (off all days, I was not expecting a call on Saturday) September 1, I finally receieved a call offering me the position. Of course I said yes on this preliminary offer and was so excited. I went to Concentra last friday (Sept 7) for my pre-employment screening. Then yesterday I got a call from Parkland Occ Health to see if I had done it. I had to go back and get another shot today (titer was low), so maybe now Parkland will get my info? I don't know.
Thank you all for your discussion here, that gave me hope during this long process. It is comforting to hear others experiences. Currently I am debating calling my recruiter to find out about official papers. What was this process like for you all?
In reference to the contract length, I was told 2 years from the end of my residency (which I was told would be 6 months in L&D). Any other L&D people out there????
Good Luck on your NCLEX Shiner! YOU will do awesome!!!!
(Also, sorry this was so long!!)
The contracts are two years and well I know far as the ED residency we'll be getting them to sign sometime during the first week of orientation. I'm not sure if it's the same for all the different residencies but I called to get clarification about it and that's the info I was given. Hope this info helps.
That's good news. From what I've been hearing all residencies are 2yrs. Congrats on your new position. Which hospital did you accept an offer with??Now that I think about it, I bet the ICU contract is longer d/t so many nurses leaving for CRNA school.....? I never actually saw the paperwork.... I declined the MICU position and accepted a Pediatric ICU position. Good luck to all of you at Parkland!!!
