Parkland Critical Care Nurse Residency Sept 2012

Published

Hi all,

I'm somewhat new to this forum. I applied to Parkland's MICU and SICU residency. I've already received the email saying my apps were forwarded to the hiring manager. I'm looking for any info on what the hiring process is like, far as, how long after receiving the email did you get an interview and also any info on how the residency works. My dream is either to get into the ED or one of the critical care areas. I know this would be a great opportunity to be employed at a Level I trauma center. Any advice, tips, connections and info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi everyone! Congrats on those landing interviews and receiving job offers! That is wonderful news! I'm crossing fingers to hear back from them sometime in the near future. I'm a new graduate nurse looking to apply at Parkland. For the current positions posted, does anyone know if that is for the September cohort or January? Does anyone know if they have finalized the list of hires for the September cohort? Thank you so much!

I think it varies by department. The interview I just got is for the September cohort. Best thing is to call the recruitment department. There is a FAQ link toward the bottom of this page with the number and email for recruitment:

Graduate RN at Parkland Health & Hospital System

Hi all. We're slowly approaching our start date of our residencies. Trying to get a count of who will be in the ER residency with me. I look forward to seeing you all and I can't wait to start this journey.

I'm in Weatherford which is an hour west of Parkland. The commute actually isn't that bad I guess I've gotten used to commuting. I'm not to familiar with the area being that I'm not from here. @Kabouche-- have you interviewed for the position yet?? The hiring process is pretty long but I'm assuming since the residencies start on the 24th you may hear from them sooner than we did far as an interview and things like that
Nope no interview yet..just these emails. Guess its not happening the job starts the 24th. My hopes are dashed once again.

Hey all, I have been out of town for a while vacationing and just getting ready to start working!

Babigrl, I will be in the ER with you! I am also curious to see how many we have here who will be joining us.

I am a mixture of emotions! scared, excited, nervous, antsy, lol. I am 3/4 of the way done reading Fast Facts for the ER Nurse. It's an easy read and keeps me busy. :)

NewdaisyRN. I pretty much have all of the same emotions. I haven't really done any reading or things like that as of yet. I did reach out the educator about the schedules and things like that. Pretty much it's basically days, nights and weekends. Class will be 8-5 and clinical w/ preceptor will be whatever their schedule is for that week in the pay period Wednesday-Tuesday. But she said pretty much relax until then because they start from scratch with everything. No true way to prepare. So I'm enjoying these last weeks off.

That is great that you called and inquired on more information. I have been meaning to call, but never got around to it. My husband laughs at me because I am already in "study mode". I cant help it, lol. I have been out of school for 9 months now, so I definitely needed a refresher. I gotta read you a quote from the book that had me laughing, "if you have a patient who is hallucinating, do NOT touch the patient". Hmm, really, cause that was my first thought, oh yes, lets get wacked by an unstable psych. patient today.

The 24th is right around the corner Parkland peeps! :)

Has anyone else got any offers from the other residencies??

Thanks! Hey babigrl and other members of the September cohort. Did everyone who has actually SIGNED their paperwork sign for a 2 year contract? I was told today in my interview that the contract is 3 years, and that really threw me. I haven't officially accepted the offer yet, and I know I need to talk to HR to get the final word....but please let me know about your contracts...thanks!!

Far as the contracts, my understanding is that at the end of the 16wks the contract is offered after that and is a total of 2yrs. They emailed us a sample of the contract but it was 3yrs. I've also heard that they started offering a $3000 sign on bonus which I don't think we fell under that based on the timeframe of when the initial offers were extended. It may be because of the sign on bonus that it's an extra year.
