Parents sometimes...

Student in our school had several seizures this morning, ended up needing Diastat and even then took 10 minutes for seizure to fully stop. EMS took her to ER which happens to be right next door to our school. Mom just called and says "ER just discharged her, can I drop her off for the last 3 hours of school"?!? ?

Not a stupid question, but there should be packets of lubricant in the kit with the syringes.

Yup -you open the plastic packaging and there are gloves and a packet of lubricant right inside with the med.

I'd also be concerned about trying to administer a med via that route to someone who's having tonic-clonic movements. Sounds a little like "Mission Impossible"...

I used to add an extra set of gloves and a drape when I had one, just in case...

Argue to argue:

Sent two dance performance kids home yesterday with FEVER, performance after lunch today.

Parent calls - It has been 24 hours since last fever (I called at 1115) can my student go to performance? (Not a UIL performance, which covers this.)

No - not here during state attendance time

No - I send home and state cannot come to school tomorrow

No - pretty sure probably still sick and pumped up with antipyretics.

Come on now (sounds like another thread!)

But children can have ZERO disappointment in life. Doesn't matter if the rest of their classmates get sick. Meanwhile, my two sat home 4 days while their class went to New Orleans, talk about disappointment.

this is exactly what is wrong with kids. I sent another home with fever - pediatrician mom sent with motrin on board. I have documented 2 times before about this same thing last year. mom did not answer, got dad and told him this is the third time I have told you all to not do this and please don't send tomorrow. I then emailed first class of the day and said to send them to me STAT if they arrive. Student stayed home.
