I am sure this is discussed a lot!
I am almost through my pre-reqs for an LPN program (which is also offered part-time) and half way through pre-reqs for an RN program at the other college in my town.
I am on the fence about which one to do. I am anxious to hurry up and be a nurse already...and get my RN, so then I think the 2 year RN program makes more sense , and I do think I can get the pre-reqs done by the cut off next year May so I could start Sept 2011, but I am scared about family. My kids are 8 and 4....DH is a work-a-holic and has to travel, so I would need to hire someone to help me. I am not sure about that...that is why I am debating the LPN program part time....but it has a year waiting list, so I would be looking at Sept 2011 anyway most likely....but then it's only 3 days per week.
I guess I am hoping to hear from other mother's who have just done it...and to let me know how you are managing.
Sorry for the babbling....it's the kind of thing that keeps me awake at night debating! LOL!
Thanks!

I am a single mom with 8 & 5 year old boys. I am doing the 2 year R.N. program, I never considered doing the LPN. I live with my parents and they are a great support. My dad puts my boys on/off the bus on the days I go to school (3 days a week), and they also watch my kids when I work nights. They are with their dad almost every weekend so I have time to study and I also work. It's hard but it's definitely doable. I get eveything ready the night before, clothes, lunches, backpacks, etc. Finding time to study is harder, but I cram it in whenever I can. I don't have class 2 days a week, so I use those days to study, watch the required videos, etc. This is my first semester in the nursing program, so let's see how it works out!

I'd say that a good half of my class (ADN program) has kids. We manage. It's tough, but kids are also good motivation to stick it out through the tough times.
