Parentheral applications with each other at school?

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

We're about to do a return demo (RD) this coming Monday. it's to demonstrate IM, intradermal and subcutaneous injections. We're ask to pick a partner in class and do it to one another.

Just curious if any of you had to go through the same practical demonstration

Specializes in Endocrinology.

We never had to stick a partner in class. We had mannequins to practice on. But when we had to acually stick a patient, it was nothing like how we practiced. It might be a good thing that you can practice on each other first. Good luck.

Specializes in Telemetry, Case Management.

We only did one on another student, and it was a subq. :uhoh3: This was twenty years ago. :)

Specializes in ER.

We did our injections on a little, special-made pillow. :o I wish we had been able to try it out on one another. That would have made it a lot less nerve wracking doing it the first time in clinical. That pillow was NOTHING like a person!

Good luck with the test! :)

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

I don't like the idea of doing it on each other at all. Don't remember doing things to each other in school.

We did it in our class. It was great. We got over the first injection with someone we knew. Good luck and pray the person you have gives a good injection!

We practiced nearly all our skills on each other (kept our clothes on and "pretended" for complete bed baths, and had a "dummy" for caths!) All routes of injection, starting IVs, ROM exercises, putting on and cutting off casts (not that I've ever done that in my practice all these years ...), strapping each other into Stryker frames and flipping each other, many things ...

It's surprising to know that we all have different experiences on this one. If anyone wanted to know, I did well on our practical. The girl I did subcutaneous adminsitration is still alive and reports to class. We just used distilled H20 but it's still painful. Personally, I'm glad we did it. I don't think we'll do cath on each other tho (whew!)

We did 1 subQ on ourselves (abdomen) & 2 on our skills lab partner. 3 IM's & 3 intradermal's on each other.

In one of our fundamentals labs we did a sub-q injection to our lab partner. We were the first class allowed to to this in our school. Those who were before us used to practice on oranges.

Whew!this is a nifty site esp. for a nursing stude like me,anyways,im having the same return demo tom. on parenteral administration(ID,SQ,IM injection)problem is i got sick with the flu last week and was not able to watch the video presentation on how to actually do it.Can you guys help me find a site that shows actual footage on how these procedures are done?Thnx in advance!
