Ok so I am begining to think I have the worst topic ever! I need to find research articles (evidenced based) on promoting health: preventing vitamin D deficiency in elderly/nursing home patients.
I am not very comfortable with APA style formtting to make matters worse but that is the least of my worries because I can not find a single article to cite.
So far I have that you can't get enough Vit D from food or supplements so A nursing intervention would be to get the patient in the sun.
I am screwed and lost!!!!!!!! Maybe I am just putting in bad search terms I have no idea, we have a great website that is supposed to give us articles that are evidenced based, current, and everything but my wonderful topic comes up with zero results. I tried a google search ( to try to get an idea) and found nothing that I could use. AGH!

First and formost, your library will have information regarding APA style. There is a book (Barnes and Noble) on the APA style. As far as Vitamin D, you should search library and from there you will have a wealth of information. In addition the following websites: www.americangeriatrics.org, www.nih.gov/nia, www.eatright.org, www.aafp.org You might find the information you are searching for in one of these sites.
Good luck:typing

There are online APA software formats available, that you can type into and be led through the reference list. I like APA PERLA.

Utilize the Cochrane Library for current evidence-based practice research. We get full text articles from the university, I'm not sure if you have to pay as an independent user.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU airforce rn!
I was stressing too much and it was preventing me from seeing what was right in front of me. Putting in elderly and vitamin D got me plenty of articles on our database, thanks for knocking the sense back into me!

Here is a great site with examples and explanations of APA formatting.

Our school gave us a great book on APA style formatting and I thank everyone who has given websites to help me with it, I looked at them quickly and I think that they will be helpful. The thing is I know I will be able to do the formatting I am just nervous about the flow of the paper, I have never written with sub-headings and foot notes. All of my other classes used MLA which has the references at the end and all the "required stuff" doesn't interfere with the flow of the paper, and the paper itself was just paragraphs, no sub-headings. I guess before I worry about writing the paper I should find something to put in to the paper! I better get going on that...:typing

I was about to list the Owl at Pudue site, it's a great quick reference. However, you really ought to pick up the APA book - it's the only way to look up the minutiae you need to know to not lose points. I've been using APA for years (I have a psych degree as well as a BSN), and only the book will tell you exactly how you're supposed to structure your paper as well as little grammar and stylistic rules taht you'll need to know. I believe there's an online version for purchase as well, but not positive since I like real books. Good luck!

Do yourself a favor, spend $25 and get APA formating software. I use PERRLA and it can be downloaded at http://perrla.com
You will be able to spend twice the time on research rather than trying to format your paper correctly.

this software formats your paper for you? If that is the case it sounds worth my $25 if it really works.

noodletools.com If you hit the bottom middle button on the page (Can't remember what it says but I know it's the bottom middle one) a new page will pop up that says MLA or APA. You hit APA and you just enter the information about your source and it will cite it correctly for you.
