  1. Yes that is the issue the students would use it but their interventions would not reflect their assessment data
  2. The problem with this is that the care plans have to be developed from their assessment. I did the same and was able to generate the care plan without an assessment. It is general so the student will need specific information in the interventions to develop care plans.
  3. Thanks, that is another great idea, in fact we could make this for future nursing students, since we are growing our own. :wink2:
  4. I think giving awards will be fantastic. We always have food somehow since we celebrate monthly birthdays with cakes and food. However, now thanks to the suggestion, it would be great for the staff to select members for different awards-both serious and pleasureable, for example-Most likely to "get the IV on the first try"(child or adult), Best Pressed Scrubs, Most Dry Hands Award-need to be visualized by judges, etc. I think this will involve all the staff and increases staff participation in the week. :typing
  5. This issue at hand is why is she concerned about tasks? Some students by my observation has either limited critical thinking skills so they focus on simple tasks. As you noted, the nursing diagnosis is focused on other issues instead of actual acute problems. May she has not idea what to do about the acute problems. I have also experienced the same, and not matter how many times I give correction, I receive the same information. These students have problems with analysis and are more likely CONCRETE thinkers. Time and time again, they see the forest but not the trees. Just have to document this information with each clinical day. Not sure what these students believe is the job of the nurse? :typing
  6. Prayers are with you.
  7. Yes you can save while spending. I like to do both, drink coffee and buy b ooks. What a great combination. :wink2:
  8. I am hard and true Barnes and Noble Member. As a member you can save 10% off the price of the books in addition at times you can save up to 20% off the price or if a member can order them on line. I have saved a large amount of money since I have purchased many nursing text books as well as pocket guides from the store. It is well worth it. :typing
  9. I can tell you are very frustrated, now lets look from the others perspective. I was once a student, however as always I was responsible for my learning. Did not depend on an instructor to point me in the direction I need to proiceed. Now from the other perspective. Assessment should have been taught in your first semester. Suprised if this did not occur. The other issue, what reading had you done prior to your clinical on the L-D unit? Again, this is information you need prior to practice. If you completed your assessment, did you ask your instructor to review your findings? If you had a question regarding your assessment, did you aks for assitance? As far as assignments are concerned, if they (the hospital) does not have enough RN staff, then you may be assigned to a LVN/LPN. It is difficult to assign two students to one nurse. Cannot force this on those nurses. Again, have you informed your nurse on what you can do yourself. What communication have you had with the nurses? Of course some assume that you are capable of administering medication only to find out later that you may not. How do you think they feel about that? Communication is a multi lane highway, every one should be communicating, not depending on one person to perform this job. Learning in nursing school is difficult, however, in a two year program it is difficult to give all the information needed to practice. Hence, that is why reading is fundamental. I had the same and was determined that I would gain the knowledge to practice. (I love to read). I understand the frustration, however, you need to see from both sides of the street. Walk in both shoes, communicate with instructor regarding frustration. Good Luck with the studies:typing
  10. Vicky, this is great. We have a system where they are graded in clinical. Some of the tools that you have used, the nursing process etc can assist these students understand where they are deficient. Thanks for the tools. :typing:nurse:
  11. You can go to the Website for Lone Star College Kingwood. Also it is best to call the advisor at the school. Lone Star College has multiple campuses that have a nursing program. North Harris, Cyfair, Montgomery, Tomball as well as Kingwood. It would best if you check the website for the information you seek. They usually have information sessions on campus, however, you need to check the website for the dates and times. :typing
  12. That may have been the case of the comment reflected on elections, however, because of the statement regarding the large number of failures, then it needs to be reported. No need to wait until there is a problem due to grades. If a harmless statement reflected regarding elections so be it, however if not, then the authorities can decide how to act. No need to skip lectures and miss information you need in order to succeed. It may have been a harmless statement on their part. Focus on what you need to know to succeed. Good luck.:typing
  13. If this is what you are feeling then probably the instructor has a sense of the same. Now as far as the weapon statement, that needs to be reported to security at the school and to the Dean of the Department. This is not a situation that needs to be ignored. A future nurse discussing a Gun as a way to solve a problem. Hmmm, that is a great concern. Nursing itself can be stressful in certain situations. Do we need to have this while at work. No, please inform someone soon. Need to avert a tragic situation. :typing
  14. The information is through Elsevier. They have two new books about to be published. The first is Pediatrics by Wong (Virtual ClinicalExcursion) which is out this month and Iggy (VCE) new edition which will come out in Feb. The software is included with the book. It is great for all levels. The med-surg has cases that cover all the systems, including Cardiac, Resp, etc. I am sure it will be great teaching tool. Check the website. :typing
