Panicking Over Vaccines 3 Weeks until School Starts!!!

Hey Everyone,

I'm currently having a melt down that I might not be able to start nursing school this fall. I just found out today that we need 3 doses of the Hep B vaccine or a titer that shows immunity before we start clinicals. Based on my records it looks like I only received 1 vaccine for Hep B in 2010. I'm getting a titer done tomorrow. Does anyone know what happens if I'm not immune? Can they give a booster that will give me immunity before school starts? Can this keep me out of nursing school? I am so upset. I could have taken care of this months ago if I was told.

Thanks!

My school said that this would "exclude" you from starting this semester, and you'd have to reapply for the following semester.

I, like you, missed my timeline for vaccinations. I was in the middle of planning for a wedding I wasn't sure I wanted and a very close family member was dying.

I spoke with our dean and she accepted my "late" vaccines with a slap on the wrist, provided I had proof of appointments or attempts to get said vaccinations.

Good luck, OP! It's probably nothing more than a wake-up call.

Same story at my college, as long as you had proof you started the series you were good.

Mine as well. I feel bad for the original poster. The person that can give her the answer she needs is sitting on a beach right now having a fruity rum drink near Tulum

Schools have different requirements. In my school, as long as you had started the series, you were fine.

It was the same in my school, too.

At my school you can waive Hep B (though it is not recommended to do so) or as long as you start the series you’re good.

Most schools don’t have a whole ton of time between “contrats here’s your letter” “get your titers!” “Whoops! You’re not immune and the HepB series is 6m...”
