Palomar Health nurse residency fall 2019

Published

Hi everyone! Haven’t seen a thread yet for the Palomar Health nurse residency for this fall/August 2019 cohort so just wanted to start one! Just thought we could inform each other on what we hear and such!

Hang in there everyone. I do agree that the selection process doesn't really seem to make sense at all. No method to the madness. It sounds like you are all more than qualified, and I felt that way about myself too. I wish you all the best; whoever your future employers are, they are so lucky to have you. If anyone hears anymore updates, please keep us updated. And congrats again to those who were selected.

@NurseMayzla,

Your statement definitely hit the nail on the culture of interviewing and landing an acceptance to the New Grad residency. To all those who didn't receive good news I do want you to know, there is some hope if another applicant elects to rescind their interview invite. In all fairness, I am entering my 8th new grad interview and I'm not saying this to be proud, I am saying this because of the struggle I've gone through with job hunting over the last year is a reality. It's e en confusing to know that those who may not have your resume are somewhat more qualified than you. It leads me to suspect whether on paper or your personality or personal relationships are the selling point.

You see, I come from a background where it took me nearly 9 years to finish my nursing degree. I've conquered numerous times of failures and setbacks and fortunately, by the Grace of God, I am thankful to have passed my boards and paved my way to earn my degree. I am apart of a nursing association, completed a critical course, a couple of EKG courses, PALS, ACLS, NIH stroke scale, graduated with honors, inducted into Sigma Theta tau, received three reference letters, volunteered at multiple hospitals and n on profit organizations and actually rescinded a job offer just so I can to sacrifice the dream to land in the ICU.

Among the previous job interviews I've done, one of the facilities which will remain nameless verbally invited me for a second interview only find out days later that I wasn't even selected for their program. I understand how rejection feels like and if I have to carry on with resilience so can you. One thing for sure I never gave up, I kept pushing forward. I am sending positive vibes and wishing nothing but hope on your side. I know the right place will be lucky to land any of you.

Hey guys. I haven't received anything from Palomar at all. No denial email or interview email. Does anyone know what this means? Thanks!

Anyone know how long it takes after the interview to know if your hired? Also does anyone know if theirs a difference in pay between the classroom time and floor time??

According to HR, we will find out on or by next Friday!

So, I had my interview today. Im gonna break it down and tell you all how the process goes since that information in no where on here, and I think it gives future applicants some peace of mind.

First off, once there is 350 applicants, the applications are taken off the page. From those 350, only 70 are chosen to interview. Contrary to popular belief, there is a method to the madness of who is chosen to interview, they don't just arbitrarily pick names out of a hat. Maybe, write a better cover letter next time, I dunno. The number of positions changes for each cohort. I dont remember exactly how many positions are available this time, but it was around 30-35.

You interview for each unit no matter what units you applied for BUT you will only be hired for a unit you applied for. There are 7 stations with 2-3 interviewers at each station. The interviewers are nurse educators, and managers. You interview at each station for 10 minutes. At the 9 minute mark, theres a knock at the door to let you know to wrap it up. Questions that are asked are situational, like, "what would you do if..." and of course in all interviews, why you chose each unit and why Palomar Health, also, "tell me about a mistake you made." Every answer you give is scored with points, the points are tallied up. The files of applicants with the most points are then given to the nursing manager who then chooses which of the top are going to get an offer.

We were told we would receive an offer by Tuesday. If you are an alternate you will be hearing by Friday.

I interviewed yesterday and they debrief you after giving all of these details. Each application listed is for one position - so there were 25 applications/positions posted. There were budgeted to add on two more OB/L&D positions... so a total of 27 positions this round. Good luck to us all and I hope that we are all coworkers together! ❤️

Does anyone remember any details about the New Grad program? I was really stressed after the interview and didn't hear what they said! It starts August 19th, but that is about all I know!

Did anyone hear from Palomar HR today?

Nope haven't heard anything from HR. After my interview we were told the earliest we'd hear back would be Wednesday 7/17, and the latest Friday 7/19. Everyone who is going to be offered a position will receive an email on the same day, so if you get an offer pls post on here!

Same here - nothing! Glad to hear that we might hear tomorrow!

Has anybody seen their pay scale listed anywhere? How much are would they pay during residency and after?
