Packet 4

World UK

:balloons: Hi everyone!

Received packet 4 in the post on Tues! Lots to organise now! Excited, nervous - Can't believe it's all now happening. Interview on 17th July!;)

Specializes in theatre, elderly, community, ICU.

:) Hi ukrn2ca

They do look at 'external genitalia', have to say I was a bit worried about that myself, and my daughter (20) definately wasn't amused, but it was a very discreet and quick look for us women (had a woman DR as well). My hubby & son (17) had a male DR who they said was OK and he looked them over asked them to 'cough' etc. but they were ok about it. Philip (son) thought it was highly amusing!!:chuckle

Interviews on 17th, and we plan to go if all goes well towards the end of sept. Could go earlier but have some commitments before then, and hoping to be near to selling the house also by then!

Specializes in Surgical, Breastcare, Minor ops, OPD.

Good luck with the interview on monday, hope it's not to hot on the train.

Do you remember when your file went to the embassy?

Any news on the house any buyer yet?

Hi ukrn2ca

Our case was completed on 3rd may and we were told then it had been forwarded to the embassy.

No good news on the house front!!

Had our interview yesterday. In there almost 3 hours!!! Lots of peoplethere (not all for immigrant visas). Felt like you got passed from pillar to post. Sit and wait for your number to be called, present all documents and fingerprinting to one person then sit and wait for number to be called again. See another immigration officer, raise your right hand and swear the information given is correct. Goes through papers again, asked me where I'd be working, asked my daughter about uni (she will be travelling back and forth to finish her degree here) Gives you back originals and then that's it. Welcomed us to the US and wished us well in our new life. The only hitch was that our medicals hadn't been received by them, so told to expect our passports with visas back in a week as opposed to a couple of days. Paid for the courier service (£13.50) for family package, and I don't think I will believe it until I see it in our passports!!!

Phoned the doctors in knightsbridge this morning our medical reports were sent out on 14th so probably wasn't through the system by 9.30am monday morning. Thought they'd have been quicker than that as we went on 7th.

Great news I loved the bit when he said Welcome to the USA. I bet you are very pleased and excited. I am very happy for you.

Thanks madwife!

Yeah, excited now can't believe that 3years ago this was the beginning of a dream. There were times that I thought it was never going to happen.

Do you or anyone else know of anybody's experiences with shipping/removal firms who have come from the UK? Also I promised my son I would try and find out (may seem like a daft qustion!) will his playstation work over there?? I said he could get one out there but he wants to take his with him?? Maybe he'll need a transformer? They certainly know their priorites at 17!!:lol_hitti

We bought lots of suitcases and sold everything else it was cheaper to buy out here than ship, I couldnt believe the price of shipping I thought it was a joke. No I dont believe he can use his Uk playstation over here unless it is a handheld one. Our dvd camera whilst I can buy the dvd's for it and convert it I cannot play them on the dvd player nor the TV but I can use the computer to watch them. I do believe you can buy a universal DVD player for around $200. Playstaions are not that expensive

Things will go in a whirl for you now and your feet will not touch the ground for months. Be prepared for a bit of an anti-climax feeling just for a day or so-then you will be back to twirling again. We queued at the US embassy too, you will now queue at the Social security office, the driving licence centre, at the airport when you go get your photo and finger printstaken you will feel you have been queuing forever lol

Congratulations Apriljan:balloons: :biggringi :D :icon_hug:

I'm so happy for you.

You must feel very strange now its all over! just the house to sell now:uhoh3: another headache, hope you get a buyer soon. Keep your fingers crossed for me too, We are going to drop the price if no buyers by this weekend. We just don't want it to keep us back after we get the visas.

I have had a quote for shipping from pickfords, just a few personal things in boxes, like photos, pictures, glass wear ect. no bedroom furniture stuff from living room & dining room & a few Jamie oliver pots & pans. 5,000 pounds including insurance, tried a few others they cost more. When I found one that was less they seemed a bit micky mouse wouldnt trust them. Quotes are free & theres plenty on the net.Give it a go if it cost to much just re think what you want to take & why, maybe like Madwife you might want to get new when you arrive. I am taking some stuff as I have lots of family glass wear & things we have bought together that provide happy & fond memories.

Let me know when you get your passports back, I know what you mean about not beliving it untill you see it,I'm also like that. Then you can break out the champagne :smiley_aa :yelclap:

congratulations for your embassy interview, we had medicals on the same day as our london interviews and no mention of internals or examination of external bits !!!!

what on earth are they looking for??

we only brought personal belongings with us and we were only allowed 2 cases each which couldnt weigh over 70lbs each, so it was a nightmare.

we left some more stuff with family and either relatives or friends have brought us things. we were recently back there and brought a couple more things with us.

its easier to buy the big stuff new than pay to ship it.

Hi madwife, How much excess luggage were you allowed to take? Can't even imagine how we would take clothes and personal items with us at the time!! OMG it doesn't bear thinking about!:uhoh3:
Specializes in RN, BSN, CHDN.

We were very naughty and we took 14 suitcases for 4 of us and expected to pay for each extra one. But when BA knew we were emigrating they never charged us excess bagage. I have to add that 4 suitcases were small enought to put in the overhead compartments, so we really only had a couple of excess bags, but they put all the luggage through. Remember you can take 2 bags each and a moderate one in the above comartment-so lots of luggage.

Specializes in renal,peritoneal dialysis, medicine.

14 suitcases! blimy! mind you it was nice of them not to charge you.
