Pace University CDP

If anyone is or has attended PACE in NYC please give some feedback about the CDP/accelerated BSN program.

THANK YOU!

I'm actually applying to Pace's program for this fall 2010. My grades and everything are average, so here's to crossing my fingers and hoping i get in. I graduated college in 2008, and am turning 24 late this month (i'd like to think i'm not that old). If the commute to pace is easier for you, then i'd say do that instead. As far as my understanding goes, the program is supposed to be very challenging and time-consuming so really enjoying the city for what it is would be difficult.

I'm actually a little thrown back right now, after reading the last post stating that pace is awful, and you shouldn't bother to apply. And meanwhile, other people praise it so much. I hope if i get in my experience will differ... :(

How's your application process going anyway? I'm applying to NYU, and CNR, wanted to apply to stony brook as well, but their program starts in summer (like may/june). I didn't have enough time to get everything together and plus, i work full-time, and need to set a plan and then tackle it instead of doing everything last minute; otherwise i'd be screwed.

Pace is awful!! honestly you are better going to SB or CnR ... tuition is much cheaper. I was in the CDP program but got kicked out. I thought with a bs in chemistry i would be fine going thru the program but no ... the whole program is disorganized!

I was also accepted in the 2 year CDP program at Pace after graduating from the University of Connecticut. I was dismissed after my first semester at Pace. I worked hard and studied non stop for exams. I emailed teachers for extra help (no repsonses) I had a lot of knowledge before entering this program. I am not a slacker who is bitter. I have NOTHING good to say about this program. About 6 students in the program actually made it to the next semester. Of those 6, 1 has transferred and 2 are trying to get out, and 1 is on academic probation. Clearly Pace's program has a serious problem. I was actually in the top 10 (grades wise) in my program but still did not pass, my GPA failing was a 2.78. My grades were a 91%, an 81%, and 76% in the classes I took. Clearly I did not do poorly, but as other posters have said, Pace makes doing well virtually impossible. We should have been getting full time financial aid but Pace screwed up and we didnt get that. In turn I ended up having to work a couple days a week to pay my rent and did not get health insurance from the school. No ONE in our program was happy, we went to the Dean with petitions signed by just about everyone (including the 6 students who passed) and they disregarded it. They even sent out our confidential information (SS#'s, grades, DOB) to someone not priveledged to get that info. As a result they now have to pay for fraud protection for all of us. Long story short, DO NOT GO TO PACE!!!!!!! Go anywhere else. The admin lies and manipulates situations, professor are not available for office hours in NYC, and tutors provided actually failed out of the program as well. If you are accepted I would say to wait and try somewhere else, it is not worth it. You will end up $15,000 poorer, and 6 months behind on egtting your nursing degree. Or you could be the 12% that make it through and be crying everyday because you hate the school so much (this actually happened to a girl still in the program) RUN WHILE YOU CAN!!!

i was accepted and enrolled into the pace cdp fall 2009program and now i am left with...nothing. i am only able to apply to my local community college to attempt admission. at first, i thought what a wonderful chance for me to continue my education at pace university lienhard school of nursing, but in fact, it was the start of my terrible nightmare. the reason why i am saying this is because this is clearly not a good standing nursing school, as one would think. i was academically dismissed from the program due to my "lack of standard/ failing grades" although i passed every class in the semester with all grades higher than a c and c+. even "b"'s seem to be failing nowadays. but who else knew that the school shared professors from their other campus located in westchester, for some reason, maybe even because their main point is business profit, not for education. although more than half the class was doing poorly on the exams, did any one provide enough assistance and guidance for the rest of the school year. not until students forcefully requested that review sessions should be made, did the faculty decide to hold one. they were less than an hour long for most times. what kind of review is that, besides rushing through the questions and not being able to fully review an examination? throughout my undergraduate school years, i have not had much problems or issues with examinations that professors write. at pace, you will find poorly written test questions, which the professor will shamelessly say that it will be "thrown out" due to poor wording or rather, a test question that too many students got wrong, or misunderstood. i had graduated with a 3.75 from my undergraduate university and am not a student who procrastinates or slacks off. as a magna cum laude graduate, i had confidence and faith that i could manage the pressures and instability of such program, but pace has proved me wrong. it is too unstable and i would say that the school itself acts as a conman, and i am not exaggerating. i, myself, also had to move out the nyc and live in their dormitory. the residential life at pace is a whole other story, but pretty much ties into the conman plot. long story short, living in pace housing poses a potential harm and threat to your own well-being, and the residential assistants and the director (the one who is responsible for everything that goes on in housing) does not care about their students/residents. feedback is horrible, lack of communication and contact with residents, as advice was not taken from the reporting students including myself. if you want to read more about my housing experience, see below, since it is kind of off topic....

it is clear that a residential environment that promotes academic success had not been established, and had not come close to establishing in any point of time. in addition, the first line of contact during my acceptance to paceuniversity for the cdp of nursing was the housing assignment application form through the housing and residential life department. i had understanding that the form provided appropriate spaces to identify our housing assignment status and preferences, but choices listed were not guaranteed. this i understand, but to provide my 2nd roommate and i with a 3rd roommate that was completely distinct from the choices we had chosen in: smoking, organization, & bedtime, has affected my well being to a great extent. as this is not my undergraduate portion of education, but instead as a graduate student, i am highly disappointed in that i had this experience at pace. i am completely dissatisfied with the entire semester that has occurred, and as a result, i will not recommend anyone or any student who asks of my opinion about living on campus under pace housing to apply and reside in pace dormitory.....especially after witnessing a pace employee sitting inside the compactor room on the basement floor of the dormitory building smoking a cigarette indoors! talk about professionalism....

Hi guys,

I attended the online open house for Pace's CDP program last week, and just wanted to share with you all, they have announced that they have cancelled their nights and weekends program. And do not have a program anylonger in which the student can work full-time and go to school to obtain a nursing degree.

Its unfortunate, I was banking on the program, but financially, I can't afford to go to school and not pay for my livelihood. How does anyone do it? How can there not be an option for those who support themselves, without incurring even more debt then the tuition alone?!

I was also enrolled in the CDP Night and Weekend program this past fall, and like 80% of my classmates was dismissed due to my "poor grades." I failed one test in Patho, and got a tutor and passed the final with a 92%. A 92%! This made up the points I lost from the one exam and I passed the class. However my GPA was not good enough to stay. I understand that I am a adult and this is on me, but Pace does not take ANY responsibility for anything.

Previously stated by one of my classmates, whom I miss :), Pace leaked my personal info via email "by accident" by a woman who was not only rude to me whenver I went to the nursing office, but would actually go out of her way not to help me. I went to use the copy machine once and she asked me "what do you think you're doing?" This after I paid over $10,000 for a semester?????

I tell everyone not to consider Pace Nursing, that money is better spent ANYWHERE else. I am currently at a community college, in their pre-nursing program and will be entering the program in the fall. My tuition for the semester is about what I spent on books at Pace and my teachers not only make time for me but encourage me to come in to discuss my career path and academic issues whenever I want. There are people there that were talking about the Pace program and I jumped in and said NO NO NO!

Do your research, and don't waste your application money on Pace. I wish I didn't. You live and you learn.

Hello All, I just found out about the accelerated program at Pace this week. I'm very interested in applying for the Fall 2010 semester. However, I have one question. I have yet to take the GRE and Microbiology, if I sit for the GRE in May sometime and complete Micro by July 1st or so, would it be too late for me to apply for the Fall 2010 semester??? Any help at all is appreciated. Thanks!!!

The Micro would be fine. When I applied to Pace I still had Micro outstanding and didn't finish it until the middle of August. I would be more worried about your GRE scores making it on time...if you took it now, it would be okay.

Please review other posts on the accelerated program at Pace...I wouldn't recommend going there to my worst enemy. 77% of my class failed out the first semester. I was one of those who failed, and now I'm starting over in a new program $40,000 in debt because of Pace. Please also note that the people who failed out were incredibly smart, like the one came in with a 3.8 GPA from Cornell, and another was even a doctor.

There are a lot of accelerated programs out there, and I just can't stress enough to check others out, because Pace is just awful!

Here's a list of other accelerated baccalaureate programs in New York for people with degrees in other fields (there are also a bunch more in the Conneticut/New Jersey areas):

-Binghamton University

-College of New Rochelle

-Columbia University

-Concordia College of New York

-Dominican College of Blauvelt

-Hartwick College

-Hunter College of CUNY

Best of luck!

Hi I just read how horrible and difficult the CDP at NYC Pace was, but is this also true for the one located in Westchester?

I have heard the one in Westchester is much better. But I urge you to continue to do your research before committing to pace, talk to as many students as you can!

I was surprised to read the info about Pace. Is this the CDP in westchester? Any feedback on that particular program?

The Pleastantville program isn't much better. The professors are all the same as NYC and you go through you most important courses (MedSurg, Pharm, OB, and Peds) over the summer semester. Many of the students felt that they did not retain any information or learn anything this past summer because it was so fast. The one year program is 3 years of nursing school in 3 semesters.

The people that have posted about the NYC program are in no way exaggerating, it is that bad. If you "fail" a class (a 76 is failing) or you do not meet the 3.0 GPA requirement, you will be dismissed from the program. Appeals are not granted, and then they have you between a rock and a hard place. You can either leave and flush the $15,000 you spent on the first semester down the toilet or (if you GPA is above a 2.75) you can enter into the 4 year program and that will take you at least 2 more years (at $18,000 a semester).

I came across all of these comments after I had committed to attend. I wish I found this before hand. In making my decision, I had spoken to many people that I worked with (I have a pretty extensive Medical background) and from the RNs to the NPs, everyone had something good to say about Pace's program. However, 2 weeks into the program, I knew that was not the case.

So like everyone else has said about the program, please don't take my word or anyone else's as the end all be all and PLEASE do your research.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I am pretty concerned and don't want to make a mistake. Are you still in the program. If you are I hope that it is going well for you and that you get a good nursing education and good experience from it all overall. I wish you well in your studies and future as a nurse. I hope to be joining the profession soon!
