If anyone is or has attended PACE in NYC please give some feedback about the CDP/accelerated BSN program.
THANK YOU!
Washcaps,
I wouldn't give up on an accelerated program all together. There are numerous ABSN programs around both NYC and Westchester. My advice to you is do your research. Nursing school is hard no matter how you do it. Keep at the pre-reqs because whatever you choose to do, they will help you. Good luck!
I dont' know what I am going to do now.... I based all my pre-requisites on the few programs I liked. I am not sure now if I will persue this as I am concerned about Pace and getting worried about the price of all of this anyway... Good luck to you in pulling all of this together. I took my courses online as my schedule was hard to manage too.
Newnurse1234,
I'm halfway through the 2-year "part-time" program at Pace. Most of what is said is kinda true, but in the end, how successful you are is up to you. Even the two year program isn't easy and the one year program is ridiculously hard, but the teachers are really pretty good for the most part. Yes, they have a passion for teaching (someone asked that). The thing about the program is that it is unforgiving. But you know that going in and you just have to study REALLY hard and make sure you don't get below a 77 in anything and keep your GPA to a 3.0 every single semester... Also keep in mind that that means you need to have an 83 in every class because an 82 is a B- which is a 2.75.
The program is expensive, the administration is unforgiving and it's disorganized before you get there (i.e., they're haphazard about getting you the paperwork you need ahead of time, etc). BUT the teachers are very good and do want you to succeed. The school also lines up and pays for peer tutors and if you find one you like you're free to schedule as much time as you need with them, even 1 on 1. Just be aware of the grade requirements going in and study hard for every single test and you'll be fine. Everybody in the program can do the work or they wouldn't be there. Quite a few people haven't made it, but many of them have done really stupid things like go away the week before finals, go out partying before big tests, etc, and there are a bunch of people who blame the teachers for their failures which is kinda immature.
Hope this helps.
You're welcome. Sounded like you needed some balance. I heard some scary stuff going in, too, and was pretty scared, but everybody is different. The people who go in knowing what they're getting into and take responsibility for their own failures do fine, esp in the 2 year program. As I said, the one year program is really beasty, but plenty of people do great in that program, too, and will end up with great jobs when they're done. You can say what you want, but the bottom line is, Pace's nursing program has a better reputation than most or all of the others mentioned.
I am honestly offended by what you are saying by implying that I didn't work as hard as I should or that I didn't know what I was getting into to. None of that is accurate. I worked hard and take responsibility for my grades, which were above class average on every exam. 85% of the class failed out. The school investigated giving us all our tuition back. The school is being sued. Do you mean to tell me that all of those people (people who had high GPA's at Ivy League schools) were slackers who didn't want to work hard?? Before you go assuming and insulting you should know what you are talking about, which obviously you do not. Speak for yourself, not for other people who you have never met and do not know anything about. You have NO idea how hard I worked or what my background in school is.
Their ranking is based on the RN-4 program in Pleasentville and the Masters program, NOT the CDP 2 year program in NYC. So your facts are incorrect. Maybe YOU should take responsibility for what you are saying. My friend who graduated from Pace did not pass the NCLEX.
For the record I am in another accelerated nursing program with an excellent reputation and my GPA is close to a 4.0. Not to mention I am learning things that Pace never even touched on. (I have an entire class on how to do an extensive head to toe medical assessment, Pace had us watch a 20 minute video on it.. FAIL) The NCLEX pass rate at the school I am in is higher than the pass rate at Pace. That is a fact. In the end I will graduate with a better experience, more knowledge, and only a few months after when I would have graduated would I have stayed at the awful program at Pace.
Hi Sv354
I applied to the Cdp program for spring semester 2011. I got the rejection letter back....I can reapply if i take the MAT and get in the mid 400's.... I was just wondering why do you consider this program to be awful??
Is it do able?
How much is the tuition?
Is it better if I go to another Absn program?
I hear that it disorganized.... I just am so confused right now ... I don't know if I should take that test again because there are no guarantees....
By the way , when i called them the main reason why they didn't accept me was cause of my gre verbal score.
If anyone who is in the program right now can help me... it will be greatly appreciated. =)

Right on, newnurse1234. I would really appreciate any updates 2010 students may have. I was really disappointed to real all these terrible reviews about the CDP, which I was basing my pre-req classes on. Maybe I should give up looking at accelerated programs and be a transfer student to a regular program. I just am finding it difficult to take the classes I need in the NYC community college system while juggling a full-time job with no flexibility. Any thoughts? How hard was it for you to get ready to apply?
