Books: Most of the books you should get the older edition for much cheaper with practically the same material. The library also has some books as well Health assessment in nursing - weber kelly Understanding Pathophysiology Essentials of Pediatic nursing - wong medical- surgical in nursing - saunder clinical drug therapy: rational for nursing practice Old's maternal-newborn nursing & womens health across the lifespan these are the main books that you will need. there are a few more books, but I never purchased them so I'm not sure of the titles. hope this helps Congrats and best of luck!

Hi, not sure if anyone is still interested in this thread, but I am currently in the accelerated program and I have not had any issues. It may seem disorganized at first, but the staff and administration has been working very hard to accommodate the student's demands and some students can be very demanding. The toughest part is getting in and sending all your paper working in time. But I never had a problem with reaching anyone. Remember no one is going to spoon feed you. If you want something done, you must be on top of things. After you are in the program, you rarely have to deal with administration, so I don't understand what the big fuss is about. As for classes; it is very fast pace and mostly self teaching, but that's why it is "accelerated". I mainly chose Downstate for its cheap cost in tuition and I do not regret it one bit. Since the job market is so competitive, I rather have 10-15 grands in debt rather than 65,000. I think it is a great program, providing the basic fundamentals of nursing. Most students (in any program) do not learn anything until they reach the work force.

Every program has its weaknesses. As for not getting as much out of classes, I completely understand, but you signed up for an accelerated program. If you wanted a deeper understanding of the material, a two year program would be the best choice for you. But if you're not discouraged by self-teaching and hard work then you will survive. There will always be pros and cons when it comes to an accelerated program. SUNY Stony Brook has a great environment but it is far and NCLEX passing rate isn't the highest. Pace is good but half the class gets kicked out before the program ends. NYU and Columbia will cost you an arm and a leg. In the end its all about compromise.

Wow it seems totally unfair that they are not even given a second chance. Committing to nursing is a huge step, I believe these programs should do everything they can to help the students succeed.

How likely is to for someone to get kicked out of the program? Has anyone been kicked out yet and if so do they eventually get reaccepted?

Hi, I will be entering the Accelerated BSN summer 2010 class. :) I was wondering if anyone still have holds on their account. I have JUST mailed out my health forms because I received my acceptance letter 2 weeks ago. I am afraid that my hold will not be resolved in time and if administration is as bad as everyone make it to be then I am even more worried. Hope someone can help me out before the end of registration. Thanks!

Hi! I just found got accepted to the ABSN last week which is really really late. I was wondering if anyone know how strict are they with deadlines, because I don't graduate from my undergrad until May 21st and apparently they need proof of BS by the 28th. Does that also affect my ability to register for courses since registration starts next week.
