hi everyone. i recently graduated from nursing school back in may. i took my boards in july and recieved my licence early august. i have been applying like crazy to many places for a position as an rn. i am getting very frustrated because i haven't had any luck finding a position. many places say they want 1-2 years experience to even apply! does anyone have any ideas? any nursing recruiters or something to help me? i am so eagar to start my new career and i'm getting very discouraged from the lack of responses and positions. thanks for any help or advice you all have!!!! xoxox
Ican totally identify. I graduated in May. Passed boards on the 1st of July. I applied to most of the hospitals in SE WI with no luck. Finally I had to cross the boarder into IL, but I got hired in late Aug. Keep trying, calling places back. I drive 45 min, but IL pays better so it pays for the drive. Keep your chin up. One thing that was suggested to me was working in a nursing home. I did end up in a hospital, but every one has to find their niche.
One thing that all future new graduates need to remember, is that many of the hospitals that do pre-hiring for graduation start in February/March.
That means by the time May rolls around, and those that already got jobs took the NCLEX during the summer, they are finishing up their perceptorships during early fall.
This may be a huge reason why this time of year, many newly licensed RN's claim they cannot find a job...b/c all the hospitals are still orienting new graduates from Spring.
Well, I know this story pretty well. I worked for two years as a patient care assistant while attending one of the toughest nursing schools in this country and thinking all this time that getting a job will be a breeze. Well, not quite. All I can tell ya is be open to anything. Even if you think your not interested in something, follow it up. You might be able to transfer to another floor in 6 months or something. It might be a nightmare, but hey, so was nursing school. At least you'll be getting paid for this nightmare. I am getting a position in the MRICU at some point where i work now according to the nurse manager. Like tom petty says, "the waiting is the hardest part".
Good luck, and again, at least nursing school is over.
Ditto.
I'm a new LPN looking for a LTC or Dr. office job in Mass. since early August. It's embarrasing to tell friends/relatives that I'm still not hired. They've all heard about the so called "nursing shortage." There are those that say "Oh, LTC is always hiring.." I'd like to know which ones; let me see the advertisement... I've applied to so many places and they prefer not to hire new grads. Even the local VA hospital has no openings for LPNs. This is definitely not what I had planned; I thought since I was a top student I would have a multitude of offers. It seems like the only way to break into the job market is to take 3rd shift working in mental health(?).
I'm lucky that I don't have to start working right away. But honestly, if I had known better I would have started applying months before graduation.
Hang in there, God bless us all!
keep applying... dont limit yourself... even if you have to start at a small hospital. if possible even looking into traveling? does nj include tri state license? just some suggestions! i applied everywhere possible... and it just takes some places longer to get back to everyone. tr getting ur resume looked at and critiqued.

I live in central New Jersey, and still havent heard anything from all of the applications I have filled out. I am getting very discouraged. Im thinking about applying to some LTC facilities, but Im worried that hospitals wont accept me after I get experience there bc they would look down upon LTC experiences. any responses to that? thanks so much guys
