hi everyone. i recently graduated from nursing school back in may. i took my boards in july and recieved my licence early august. i have been applying like crazy to many places for a position as an rn. i am getting very frustrated because i haven't had any luck finding a position. many places say they want 1-2 years experience to even apply! does anyone have any ideas? any nursing recruiters or something to help me? i am so eagar to start my new career and i'm getting very discouraged from the lack of responses and positions. thanks for any help or advice you all have!!!! xoxox
Ditto.I'm a new LPN looking for a LTC or Dr. office job in Mass. since early August. It's embarrasing to tell friends/relatives that I'm still not hired. They've all heard about the so called "nursing shortage." There are those that say "Oh, LTC is always hiring.." I'd like to know which ones; let me see the advertisement... I've applied to so many places and they prefer not to hire new grads. Even the local VA hospital has no openings for LPNs. This is definitely not what I had planned; I thought since I was a top student I would have a multitude of offers. It seems like the only way to break into the job market is to take 3rd shift working in mental health(?).
I'm lucky that I don't have to start working right away. But honestly, if I had known better I would have started applying months before graduation.
Hang in there, God bless us all!
My first LPN job was third shift in a nursing home.
KCSB12,
There is a career fair on on 10/10 in Edison, where we can finally talk to a recruiter instead of leaving voicemail (http://events.nursingspectrum.com/event.cfm?EID=649). I have already confirmed with a few places that the next orientation for new RNs won't be till Jan 2009. So they should be starting to interview last quarter of this year. If what they told me is true (that they look through their files of applications earlier in the year) then we should be expecting calls soon. Have you considered PA? St Mary's usually has nurse open houses on a regular basis. One is coming up on 10/15. All UPenn hospitals only accepts BSN so that candidate pool is smaller, and they're accepting Gateway to critical care for Jan 2009 right now (search "gateway" in job listings). License endorsements from NJ may take a month to process, so have you applied yet? We live in the same area, so we may be competing for the same slots, but I'm sure there is room for both of us once the august/september orientees finish their run. Good luck to us both...
