hey everyone!

just wanted to ask how many people out there are applying to ou? and is anyone attending the application seminar next week? it's suppossed to be extremely helpful in preparing a great app!

i'll be there- even though i'm not applying until 06. i'm working on pre-reqs right now and hope to get in the 2nd degree bsn program. i want to get my hands on as much info as i can. i hear it's pretty competitive out there.

Does Langston have a LPN - BSN program? I e-mailed them 2 weeks ago and never heard back. All of the prereqs are the same for their BSN programs and OU's except they require intro to soc.

my first post here.

just found out that i was accepted to OUHSC for the accelerated program starting in june.

congrats to the others that got it, and i look forward to meeting you....

Welcome Phil!! Congrats on your acceptance!

I wont find out for UCO (University of Central Oklahoma) until the end of this month and we wont find out for the traditional BSN at OU until May!! That is a longggg wait.

Has anybody heard much about the LPN-BSN at OU? I had been told that it wasn't as competetive but someone told me today that it requires a 3.7gpa. I thought all their programs had a minimum of 2.5 but you need a higher one to be more competitive. Anybody know?

Congrats Phil!!! Goodluck MarilynMom!!!

thanks marilyn and kayte.

i CLEPped Human Growth and Development yesterday (which was the last of my requirements), then mailed off my acceptance letter and deposit.

i'm definitely stoked - i just need to find a way to make an extra 8K between now and june.

it'll be a difficult year i'm sure, but should be well worth it in the end.

thanks again.

I have a question.... I am wondering what is the fastest way to get my bsn. I was thinking of going to tulsa community college for pre-req and rn. then going to ou in tulsa for my bsn for 9 months. I know I could go straight for it, but I am afraid of the competition. I thought about going to tricounty tech for 11 months for my lpn and then doing a bridge lpn to rn, but I hear that was pretty hard learning lpn in just 11 months..... what do you guys think?

I'm starting at Tulsa Tech in May for the LPN program and plan to do OU's bridge after that. (They do require you to work a year as LPN first, by the way.) I've heard from other people who've gone through the program there that the LPN isn't that hard. Ours is self-paced too, so most people actually do it in less than a year. I'm hoping to do it in around 9 months. have you done any of your prereqs yet? If not, there's a good 2+ years of prereqs to do OU's. I have everything out of the way except the sciences and I'm knocking those out over the next year as well as doing the LPN. Goodluck! If you need more info, feel free to PM me. I think I've researched every possible way of getting through the BSN here in Tulsa!

I am currently in the OU ABSN program. If you have a family or have other obligations (work, chores, etc..) rethink your choice! I have spent about 10 hrs per day on classwork (not including class time) everyday since classes started and we are in class Mon-Fri from 8-5 (usually). Also, the people are very disorganized and most of them do not communicate well with students. The horribly designed WebCT program just makes things even more difficult. Yes I'm glad that I am in the program and thankful for the opportunity. However, if my family weren't so supportive and willing to do most of the housework, cooking, & pet care (we have 3 inside dogs) there is no way I could succeed.:nono:

Are there any other current OU - ABSN students that can chime in with an opinion on the coursework?

I like the idea of the "block" style scheduling - one course concentrated at a time. Is it as time consuming as the previous poster said???? 10 hours of study on top of an 9 hour day????

Has anyone had a positive experience there?

Thanks,

Jenny

I'm in the ABSN program right now and I've had a very positive experience. The "block" style classes are more so during the summer semester, fall and spring semesters are pretty much your regular 16wk-class semesters. Between coursework and clinicals there is really a very slim chance that you'll have a life. When they say that you will eat, sleep and breathe nursing, they weren't kidding lol

The program has it's quirks, but overall it's pretty good, OU is lucky to have some great faculty who make a big difference.

Thanks, ilona22, for the encouraging post. : ) What are your thoughts on someone who has a hubby and small kids going that route? That's really my only worry.... I don't mind studying a lot, but family does take some time haha!

Thanks again!

Oh, how many are accepted in the program??

Thanks,

Jenny
