Other Nursing Resources

I am just starting my clinicals in the fall. There are so many books to get that its overwhelming. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone can suggest any other books that they have purchased from a bookstore (other than school's bookstore)that they found useful. I've been searching Amazon.com and found a few that look interesting but I want to be sure that they are worth it since it will be additional reading. Also, I know I'm getting ahead of myself since I'm just starting the clinicals, but when is the best time to start studying for the NCLEX? I've found study software on Amazon.com. Thanks in advance for your responses!!! I love this website! :)

check to see if the book you do need have any supplements or related reading books you may purchase. i personally don't think now is too early to at least start scanning through the nclex book.

Thanks for the welcome. I think this is an excellent website. So much good information. I get overwhelmed at times because there's so much on here. But I love it! I've bookmarked so much within this website, I don't know what I have!

I just bought "Fluids and electrolytes made incredibly easy "by Springhouse. I find it easier to understand than anatomy books.

I hear this will a difficult subject in nursing classes and will give me the chance to get a jump on the subject.

"Nursing documentation handbook' by T.M Marrelli was also easy to understand and will help with careplans, assessment and charting. I frequently go to amazon.com and check out their used nursing books and I have found many good nursing books at a reasonable price.

i cannot recommend enough any of the care plan books by m. doegnes. these helped me out so much (and still do!) by cutting down the number of resources i needed to complete any and all care plans. they were very well received by all of my instructors.

i have the one in the above link and also the maternity and psych care plans. love them all and was worth any money i've spent on books. well worth buying at full price but amazon makes it that much better that you can get them for half. ;)

I always browse through books at the bookstore when I buy my required reading material. I have books on careplans, books on pharmacology, books on fluid balance....etc.....

Buy any book that you think you may need....

I do...

of course, I am a reference freak...have the need to have things right at hand...

Starr234 I have that same Springhouse book, I bought it used, also Stat Facts might be helpful (used), Incredibly Easy Assessment and Drug Calculations too for later use. ;)

Awesome info! I've made a folder with different posts and save them on the server (not on my home e-mail addy in case my comp dies). I hope to get accepted and enter the Nursing program next fall. Thanks everyone for sharing your experience! Think I'm going to need my own personal library:rofl:

My patho teacher actually put this book in the bookstore for us to purchase. She said she loves it and that most students call it their best friend and a lifesaver. She said that it is the best of the books like it and that she still uses it! Most people will tell you that fluids and electrolytes are challenging (at least everyone I have talked to). I have looked over the book and it does look like it breaks it down into simple easier to understand concepts. Good luck in your class!:) :cool:

In regards to one of your questions I personally feel that it is NEVER to early to start preparing for the NCLEX if you wish. As a matter of fact I recommend that EVERY nursing student when no matter if they are a beginning nursing student or a senior nursing student buy a NCLEX book. NCLEX books have helped me a great deal on the nursing school tests. I have done several questions in the books I already have. I will soon be buying some more including some Cd-rom's. The NCLEX books and/or CD-roms are great investments.
